  • Are there any particular features that any gios would have? I bought a bike off the forum a few months ago , the owner wasn't sure if it was real or not. The stickers, although worn say super compact. I can't seem to find a serial number anywhere. Also it doesn't have cutouts in the underside of the BB shell. Thanks for any help. Alex.

  • Pictures would help a lot ;)

  • Anything in particular that would be more definitive?

  • Sorry, no GIOS at all. :(

  • Hehe that's alright! Means I don't feel bad about cutting it up and can re paint it now!!

  • I love this thread! Great appreciation of a truly master frame builder! Aldo and his son Marco are also great guys!

  • I have now got the bug for a gios, do they do a track type frame? Such a gorgeous blue!

  • Yes they made track frames of the Super Record. Sometimes they are offered on the bay, mostly around 500,- €
Modern Type is called "Stilo" which is a taiwanesse plumberhose heavy weight for too much. They also made cross- and TT-frames. If you want a REAL GIOS brandnew, you have to go to Italy to buy it - nowhere else.

  • Here is one for sale, framesize '63
    the owner wants 680,- €

  • My latetst is ready to hit the road:

  • Wow, nice colour scheme! This is the Prodigiosa, isnt it?

  • Yes Prodigiosa :-)

  • What do you mean by "real gios"?

  • ^Made by Gios in Italy, not in a faceless far-Eastern factory by someone with a nanosecond of history and a pure profit motive.

  • Colin is totaly right! Nowadays two GIOS companys are existing. One is the international brand, selling anywhere "designed in Italy" massproduction frames from Taiwan. In Italy is the original Gios manufactory, family Business and handmade frames with the real Heritage. BUT, to buy anything from it, you have to go there (And be able to afford it ;)

  • I'm looking for a Gios-Fork!
I do need a Gios Coin Fork in no matter what condition. Buildyear 1979-1983. It can be bent, crashed or painted and of any size. Please take a look in your barn and attic and offer anything. Thanks for your help

  • Does anyone know if this blue matches the Gios blue?

And how gaudy would it look?

  • Nothing I've seen matches Gios blue (especially the hideous Gios printed tape on the InterWeb), even if it did, fading would mess up the matchy-matchy in about a week. You're better off with a contrasting colour, I use red, other possibly more tasteful colours are available.....

  • Realy a great bike in an immaculate finish ... I love it

  • Yeah, makes me want to build a black and white bike.

And thanks @Colin_the_Bald, that's what I figured. Black it is.

  • And that's me on the bike just reaching Berlin. I made a weekend trip from Hamburg to Berlin in 1,5 days for 276 km. Six started, only two arrived, it was raining almost all the time.

Is this a good one or Taiwanese one, also does anyone know likely tyre clearance will it take 28s?

  • Genuine Gios, hopefully Gios_Compact will be along with more details at some time (you could pm him) he knows more about these things than probably anyone... Looks very cheap at the current bid!
