  • A cyclist that fell from his bike in Richmond Park has died.

Police were called at around 09.30hrs today (Sunday, 24 August) to a
cyclist fallen from his bike on Broomfield Hill in Richmond Park.

The 40-year-old man was taken by London's Air Ambulance to the Royal
London Hospital in a critical condition. He has since died.

    Next of kin are aware.

Officers from the MPS Royal Parks Command Unit are investigating.

No one else was involved in the incident.

  • Oh dear :( RIP

  • rip

  • RIP rider, thoughts to their family and friends.

  • Fuck, I cycled past this yesterday morning. It must have just happened, but the rider had plenty of people attending to him and I didn't want to rubberneck so I went past slowly. It looked bad but I had no inkling that it could be as bad as this. Shocking and really so sad. RIP. Thoughts to all his friends and family.

  • :(

RIP cyclist, condolences to family and friends.

  • RIP cyclist

  • Jesus, RIP indeed.

  • Rest in peace!

I don't want to ask anything too probing but do we know if it was a head injury or something else?

  • rip rider
    very sad

  • Rip rider :(

@Idiot, can you tell us where in richmond park exactly this was? Did he come off going down a bend?

  • Very shocking and sad.

    RIP.

There is little info in the various local online papers other than the above.

  • It was on that first sweeping bend coming down Dark Hill - about here: http://goo.gl/maps/F1lRp - but I couldn't speculate on what caused him to come down as I didn't see it happen.

  • rip

  • Condolences to all involved

  • It is now in the Standard that a 40 year old man lost control descending Broomfield Hill. It does not say what actually killed him but it does mention that he was wearing a helmet and his estimated descent speed was 15mph.

Given this is a Standard link, probably best not to read any comments that roll in.

  • Tragic...

  • Awful. RIP.

  • RIP RP rider.

  • If it is head trauma then the family might have grounds to sue helmet manufacturers... its almost worse when its just a slip and fall

  • RIP indeed :(

Some of the guys from my club were first on the scene and apparently he had hit his head. Take care on that hill.

  • Others will I know see the black logo and their hearts will sink.

I know that hill far too well.
    Rest in peace fellow rider.

  • Very sad. RIP.

  • rip.
    :(

  • So unlucky - RIP rider, thoughts with the loved ones.

Head injuries are unpredictable, be careful out there.
