I bought a Lumia 820 a couple years ago. Genuinely one of the worst purchasing decision I've ever made.
What in particular did you dislike? I've had my 800 for two years now, and while I hated it at first due to some particularly stupid things which didn't make the transition from old dumb Nokias to Lumias, overall it has grown on me.

That the apps weren't there. Even apps like SkyDrive lacked functionality thay mobile websites like Dropbox had.
At first I loved metro but after a while the interface seemed oppressively digital. Found Android on Nexus 4 to look softer.
It was also really poorly made. I dropped it from my ankle height when bending over and the touchscreen died. Another time from a coffee table and the screen cracked.
I so wanted it to work but it just didn't.
Been super impressed with Android, last ecosystem I came to. Chrome on multiple devices is really nice. Reluctantly invested/ moved in to Play music, but that's turned out great too.
I've used all the major brands/ ecosystems. I bought a Lumia 820 a couple years ago. Genuinely one of the worst purchasing decision I've ever made.
Based on what you say, get a Google Nexus 4 or 5.
