Base reasons:
- Short hair requires more frequent cuts
- Afro hair requires more frequent braiding, etc
- Work on short, afro hair takes longer to do
Once you've got people going back far more frequently for longer amounts of time:
- The hairdressers are almost the afro caribbean equivalent of a pub/cafe, becoming a social hub
- You know anyone you know are likely to be in one of the salons (it's self-reinforcing)
- They even put on big screen events like football to ensure people stay around for longer
- Short hair requires more frequent cuts
Why are Afro-Caribbean hairdressing places open so late?
