Here is the watteam patent
http://www.faqs.org/patents/app/20130333489No mention of accuracy but it does from my understanding explain how it works on multiple cranks - as it measures the twisting of layers within the sensor attached to the crank rather than the crank itself....

"bicycle raiders" lol
It's the same concept as the Stages, Infocrank, the German FES crank amongst others, that is attaching a strain gauge to a crank arm. I only worry that the size of it and orientation means that they'll probably only chuck one or two gauges in there in the final product, which isn't ideal from a drift or accuracy perspective. If DC rainmaker says extra sensors are going to be <$50 then they won't be using posh gauges either I don't think. Getting people to glue it on themselves is optimistic too. Will be great if it works, at that price point you can give up a couple of % accuracy for some end users, be great if it ended up £300 new over here but that would probably be pushing it and it'll be £500 or something.

Hands up who snapped a Powertap axle...

I wonder if it was caused by the recent rear-ender?
Either way... fucking arse biscuits.

Did you find a way of making the Fenix 2 work with a PT Pro Track hub in the end, Dammit? I'm trying to work out the best way to log power at the velodrome.

Garmin in your jersey pocket
-
• #2509
Not allowed at Lee Valley. It is Against The Rules.

It (currently) "just works". Fenix 2 is a frustrating beast, but it does work with a PT-track

Excellent. Fenix 2 it is.

I wear mine as a watch all the time, fwiw.

• #2513
What's your Charging Schedule with the Fenix? Every night or less frequently?
-
• #2514
I've been using it for running this week (45 mins average, each day) and i've charged it once

Are saddle bags banned?

• #2516
could you attach the Garmin to the seat rails (behind the saddle)?
If so, Tillquist might help you -

Same at Herne hill, I still do it, as does everyone else. Safer having it there than dangling off some bit of your bike. Stupid rule.
Though having it in my back pocket seems to give bad hrm data for some reason. Quite often tells me my heart never went over 149bpm during track league.

If so, Tillquist might help youApparently not. I had one of the Tilquist mounts attached to my seat rails, with two zip ties per side, and with an Edge 500 securely attached to it, and got told to take it off at Lee Valley.

I agree, but it's a rule which appears to be enforced at Lee Valley. Apparently this is on the basis that 'if you crash, you'll end up with shards of glass embedded in you'. Go figure...

Do they check your pockets?!
I don't think 705's have any glass in them.. In any case, I think I would be more worried about splinters and chainrings.

The pro road cyclists must end up looking like edward scissorhands by the end of their first season then...

They don't go round physically inspecting pockets, but IME they do keep a very keen eye-out for any lumps and bumps in pockets. You're also not allowed to have a pair of arm warmers in your jersey pockets when you're on track. That's also Against The Rules. As is walking down the six steps to the toilets in cleated shoes, so you have to take your shoes off if you want to go to the loo. There are lots of things I'd worry about more than having things in my pockets and walking down stairs, but those are The Rules.

At least you don't have to stop at red lights..

No need for traffic systems when you can only turn in one direction.
Riding Styrkeprøven, then taking a month off, has fecked my Power output. So I've been training for a week using mainly HR figures. Its kept me honest, as it does when I'm running. But while I could never pretend to 'need' a Power meter. I value mine far above what I paid for it. Something I never thought I would before taking the (Financial) plunge.
