  • IANAHairdresser, but I can imagine 'fros taking longer to cut evenly, so a salon cutting 'fros would seem busier than other salons with the same number of customers and no 'fros.

  • Pass the floor-polish vicar

  • I was out in Brixton last night and got the bus home to Streatham. There were five types of shop open: pubs, bars, restaurants, takeaways and places that do hair for black people.

    You're right!

  • I don't know what you mean, I'm sure. Doesn't everyone get their hair cut in an Angus Steak House?

  • That said, in the cases where there is CCTV or other evidence that a driver deliberately uses a car as a weapon, I feel intention to seriously injure (due to the nature of the weapon) would be fairly well proven and the cps etc could apply a more aggressive approach. "Accident" or recklessness is not treated as an email excuse when you let your knife go into someone and I think a vehicle should be treated no differently.

Even when drivers are merely being aggressive and then "accidentally" collide - their actions are at least an assault in law and hence a manslaughter charge could stick.

  • This haircut stuff is all massively racist. I was in Rusholme at about 2100 last night and there were a bunch of Asian's getting their hair cut too.

  • You what?

    Shall I speak up? :P

  • Bardoline...

  • CPS never aggressively pursue anything unless they have an almost 100% chance of conviction. Even then they'll usually go for the easiest option or go for a lower sentence to get a conviction.

  • I've replaced my phone's touchscreen with some success.

If anyone's done it you'll know it involves melting the glue with a heat source, prizing the screen/glass off and then sticking the new one in place. Unfortunately I spend a long time removing all the residue of the old adhesive on the phone, only to find out that the new screen had no sticky bit.

Can anyone recommend a method of sticking it back down? Ideally I'd like something that's not permanent in case I smash it again.

So far the front runner is double-sided carpet tape.

  • places that do hair for black people.

    racist.

I'm sure anyone can get a haircut in those places, no? Where do all the trustafarians go?

  • On gap years!

Seriously though I think that it's more that certain other places don't cater to black hair types because it requires a tonne more skill and training. Or something.

  • What is the cheapest black layback 27.2 seatpost I can get where I can use 20 to 25cm of seatpost? I looked into few but apart from Thomson very few have mentioned minimum insertion point. This is to go in a carbon frame.

  • So any 400+mm seatpost? Assuming min insertion is 150mm above ..

  • Minimum insertion is usually 25% of the total length, so yes, any 350mm or longer post should work with 250mm poking out of the frame.

  • Pro LT post has been pretty good.

  • Thinking of building my first wheelset, I have a couple of questions.

I know sheldon says you can build a wheel on the bike, but I honestly think I will build quite a few wheelsets going forward, how much better would something like this be:

    http://www.rosebikes.co.uk/article/minoura-ft-1-truing-stand/aid:245902?gclid=CjsKDwjwmuafBRCQ7ef6zJXhdRIkAFH2meeefprVMJpCNqOEgvgTH7nsSjnWAenN3vbqAECkwVeAGgLievD_BwE

    or: http://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/TOJWWTS/jobsworth-wheel-truing-workshop-standard

Also, first set will be for my brakeless fixed town beater thing. I am thinking of using On-one track hubs but not sure what rims. As I don't run a brake I'd like something lightish, but plenty strong for thrashing about, and cheap is most important. What are the options?

  • I wouldn't bother. Cheap stands are usually quite wobbly. Do it in the frame with zip ties. Works perfectly well

  • Racist?
Only if you think only black people deal in drugs, stolen goods or run prostitution rings.
Probably says more about your prejudices than anything.

Hairdressers and barbers have been used as a front business and money laundering operation since before Sweeney Todd, being a cash business with no need to show where the most of the money came from or is going. That's still true today.

As for the West Indian hanging-out-at-the-barbers culture, it's a mystery to me. I fucking hate going to the barbers (best thing about going bald is never having to again). I can't imagine going to one if I didn't need a haircut. In my head hanging out at a barbers would be as enjoyable hanging out at the dentists.

  • For my first wheel build I bought this. http://www.rosebikes.co.uk/article/rose-truing-stand/aid:553818

And it was a waste of money. I have since bought the minoura stand and it is significantly better. It may not be park tool level but I think it is plenty good for a couple of wheel sets a year.

  • Base reasons:

    • Short hair requires more frequent cuts
    • Afro hair requires more frequent braiding, etc
    • Work on short, afro hair takes longer to do

Once you've got people going back far more frequently for longer amounts of time:

    • The hairdressers are almost the afro caribbean equivalent of a pub/cafe, becoming a social hub
    • You know anyone you know are likely to be in one of the salons (it's self-reinforcing)
    • They even put on big screen events like football to ensure people stay around for longer
  • Do ceramic BB really make any difference?
