'50 holdsworth tornado chater lea track frame

  • So I've just got a '50 Holdsworth Tornado.......Its been resprayed a blue and cream colour. The paint looks pretty good together and will look good in the summer. I will eventually be getting it resprayed an original colour.

So the serial number on the frame is 11184, the frame and forks match.

It also has Chater Lea stamped in the rear drop outs, pretty sweet.

Has anyone got any thoughts or little gems about these frames, can anyone confirm the date?

Does anyone know what would be period correct?
    I was thinking:

Anything Chater Lea.....crank, chainring(inch pitch), headset, pedals.
    Wooden Rims
    Something like Harden Hubs

Anyone got any ideas...parts......or secret supply...
Would appreciate your thoughts....or your parts... :)

Also can anyone tell me what BB would go in these, size wise?

    ta

    Alex

  • MERGE MERGE MERGe

  • please tell me that wasn't before re-spray?

  • yes it was (walks off shaking head)

  • !!!!
It looks like it's in really good nic in that photo.. I mean, it's a lovely frame and all but....

  • :..(

  • Sack wooden rims off for one

  • Just so you know.....I didn't get the frame sprayed.....I bought it the blue colour.
The previous owner got it sprayed, he just emailed me a pic of the original paint.
I'm pretty gutted too, would have loved the original paint......just one of those things.

I've already got one Harden on my rat look Raleigh, the thing spins for ever.

Inch Pitch is proving to be a pain, we'll see how it pans out.

Both the nipples are brass and have just been left. I need to give them a good polish, should look good.

  • Are you still in Melbourne?

  • For the moment I'm in Mellbourne. I should be back in 'Blighty" soon though.
    Why do you ask?

  • shame he sprayed it. It looks great now though

  • For the moment I'm in Mellbourne. I should be back in 'Blighty" soon though.
    Why do you ask?

Cos all the cool kids are moving to Melbourne, is the trend. I'll be there next year. :D

  • I've been here since August of last year....What can I say, good people, good bars, good weather, good bike scene.....epic country to explore....Good rides all round

Good choice. If you want a heads up on where to live or anything like that just ask.

  • Cheers matey. I lived there 2 years ago, came back to pack up and emigrate permanently. Have Melbounite partner so I should be sorted!

    Thanks anyway!

  • So I finally got my frame detailed.

I got it done by a guy at my mates shop down the road.

The guy who did the detailing is an old guy and does it when he wants.

It looks amazing in the flesh. I need to get the wheels built and finally a bit of rechroming.

    Cannot wait!

  • wow, incredible!

  • Incredible job. Can't wait to see it built up.

  • that is such good work! lovely frame!

  • I have a Chater Lea frame and two wooden wheels for sale. I am in Tennessee and there is little interest here for such a thing. I'd love to hear from interested parties - questions answered with photos. Dennis

  • Can we not all take a ganders?

  • dibs dependant on cost.. as it wasn't originally poasted
