Stuck aluminium seatpost

Hi

I have a stuck aluminium seatpost stuck in an aluminum frame, any thoughts on how to get it out?

stuck because it was too tight and forced in or because of oxides? there are various liquids you could try to try lubricate or breakdown the bonding if you search the internet but i dont think ammonia is possible and caustic soda definitely isnt in this situation. Maybe clamp the seatpost in a vice then use frame for leverage to wiggle but alas with an alloy frame it cant take as much force as steel could. alloy expands under heat so maybe heat the frame and seatpost up a little, not talking fire, but maybe gently with a heat gun or some hot water, let it cool/dry it off and see if you can wiggle the post up afterwards. the last resort is probably sawing top of tube off so you can cut straight down the length of the seatpost with a long hacksaw blade hoping not to cut into the frame-time consuming depending on thickness and length and difficult as you loose much of the ability to apply a rotating force to the post once this is done.

OR...

as a last resort get one of these and cut it offr at the to and cut it out from the middle! I had to do this the other day


hehe yes looks like the long hacksaw blade i mentioned to me, the handle is a bonus extra. i found once i had made two cuts (not quite opposite but say a third of the tube apart and not all the way through the tube but till the point the walls were thin enough) that the seatpost could be deformed inwards on itself and removed.

try running plus gas down the post over a couple of days; if you remove BB turn frame upside down and chuck a bottle of Coke in the seat tube and leave it overnight.
