A quick update. Just spoke to a guy at Fitrovia Cycles who was pretty helpful and it sounds like my LBS were talking bollocks. Apparently you don't need a specific Paul hub tool. I just hope I haven't destroyed any part of the hub in my laziness to get it sorted sooner
