  • Slowly sorting out my RT57 (large/56cm)

    3t ergonovas
    3t arx pro 120mm -17 stem
    Campag Record 11 shifters
    Sram rival brakes
Campag Chorus ultratorque chainset + bb30 adapter
    Planet-X alloy seatpost
    Stripped flite ti saddle
    Planet-x A57 wheels

Need to get an 11speed rear mech and I have a 12-25 cassette to fit.

  • The dog looks suitably impressed!

Looks ace in the matt black with red accents.

I love Planet X gear. I have just built a Nanolight as my Sunday bike. It is an absolute delight to ride, just makes me want to keep pedalling.

Hopefully the last few parts come your way soon enough and you can get out and ride!

    Matt

  • Looks alright doesn't it. Are you cherry picking the group parts, or going for a full campag or what not?

  • will probably keep the sram brake calipers as they are lighter than campag and have a quick release cam - but rear mech will have to be campag.

Tyres will be going in the bin - as they are horrible ziffiro slicks and I will probably swap the wheels with some Model B's I have and use them for CX instead. Long term a set of 50mm carbon tubs will be on the list - but thats a little way off yet.

Seatpost will also be swapped for crabon at somepoint - probably a USE Alien rather than a 3T one I think.

Pedals will be SPD-sl (my only concession to Shimano)

Debating bar tape colour at the moment - black, red or white..?

  • If you are binning the red tyres, give me a shout as I have a perfect project for them.

I too was struggling with the choice of bar tape colour, but simply went on Planet X and picked the cheapest tape. Which happened to be white with silver flowers, much to the delight of my cycling mates.

Definitely red - bar tape should match the hoods IMHO.

  • I would go for black bar tape, as the hoods act as the red accent then.

    Matt

  • or you could get a (winces) kcnc red bling kit

  • Go for Fi'zik dual tape, black/red.

  • Bumps for the campag. I knew you were a man of taste! Looks good.

  • I rather like the look of that frame in that colour way. I may have to take a look on the site and investigate, although I've no moans about my Pro Carbon ..

  • Black bar tape.

I was looking at getting one of these frames, they look fantastic and seem to be great value for money. Looks like this build is doing its looks justice as well.

Does they both have the same pull ratios?

  • Think so - they are standard calipers. IIRC it was only shimano with Dura-Ace(?) that messed about with the pull ratio for road calipers?

Went with black fizik tape in the end :)

Swapped the wheels for some old Model-B's, which will do until I can afford some crabon tubs

  • Shiny rather than soft touch? Interesting decision

  • yeah - flash makes it looks shinier than it is and I have had the soft touch fizik dual on my cross bike and it hasn't worn well imo and is a bit too thick for my liking.

  • Nice - can you give an estimate of clearence running 28c tyres?

  • You might be ok at the front but no chance for the rear

  • You might be ok at the front but no chance for the rear

Grazie bello - ordering a RT57 at the end of the month me thinks...

  • In action at the Bristol South Road Race.

Was all going well until I dropped the chain and got it stuck on lap 4... time to look at chain keepers and proper front der setup...

  • Update on this.

New wheels and hollowgram cranks, getting it ready for hillclimb season.

I know - saddle needs to come down a little and level a bit (although Romin's tend to work best slightly angled I find) - but its soon to be replaced with a SMP replica...

    Also need a lighter seatpost.

  • If you have to angle the Romin like that then you should probably be riding a Toupe, or a Romin Evo.

  • Looking good. I might see you at a hill climb or two- are you planning on doing the Uni of Bristol HC up Belmont Hill?

  • hopefully, yes - my main target is the BSCC HC up Burrington
