After a while, the USA discovered that there were other languages in the world than US English
Strictly speaking, only a narrow subset of 'merkins have made that discovery.

don't break the system. @ mentions for example @WillMelling are what makes this place great now.

OK, so I'll confess I skimmed a couple of pages that had far too much code and arguing about ideal kerning for my liking...
I follow the logic on line length and if the evidence suggests this is ideal, then fine, but the feeling and also appearance of wasted space is a turn off. If the conversation itself should be this narrow, is there anything that could fill up the space (most obviously to the right where I see a lovely grey rectangle)? I can't think of anything good right now, but at the moment it does look a little like a website someone made in Word and then realised A4 isn't the same aspect ratio as most screens.
Inb4 "turn it portrait". No-one does that. Plus this is a laptop.

You could always make the window narrower.
The mindset that one monitor equals one window is getting quite broken with the number of pixels we now have on our monitors.
What would happen if your monitor was the size of a wall and always two foot in front of you, à la minority report?

Looks like you're in private browsing mode. Try turning that off and logging in again...

On the People page, if I tick the "Starts with" filter I then have to use the tab key to access the drop-down: if I click on it, it greys-out and the tick is removed.

I noticed this yesterday, I'll fix it today.

@cornelius_blackfoot You have to refresh the page to sort it

Refresh the page, empty the browser cache... whatever it takes for your browser to get the latest version of the files.
I'll double-check my end and will re-configure to ensure things aren't cached for too long.

Is there a way to choose whether or not to have links embedded? Putting map links up (ridewithgps etc.) gives an automatic embed and I can't see a way to turn it off.
-
• #4191
No, they just embed.
Same with YouTube, Garmin Connect Routes, Strava pages, etc.
If we know about the URL, the extra stuff is embedded.
What I am thinking of though, is limiting this. Instead of embedding everything, only embedding the first link that we know about in a URL.
So if you have a post with 10 links in it, instead of 10 maps appearing, only 1 map would appear for the first link that we might embed.
Additionally, if we made this change then the embedded stuff would appear at the end of the post, above the attachment space.

ridewithgps.com/routes/5248251
That's:
[ridewithgps.com/routes/5248251](http://ridewithgps.com/routes//5248251)
The extra / in the URL prevents the embedder from triggering, but ridewithgps doesn't care about it.
Or use an external URL shortening service.

But you have broken the link, by making it relative.
http://ridewithgps.com/routes/5248251
That works, it uses//
to anchor the link to the current schema.[http://ridewithgps.com/routes/5248251](//ridewithgps.com/routes/5248251)
But... the catches with that are:It requires the destination site to implement SSL and to serve the same URLs on both http and httpsYou're taking advantage of a bug in my matching of URLs and I'm likely to fix bugs.
Scratch that... it fails as well. Redirection loses the
//
context. -

I've closed this thread, but I can't unfollow it: hovering over the unfollow link reveals "javascript:void 0".
to be clear, I'm not fussed about unfollowing it, but presumably this isn't expected behaviour.

Fixed it I think.

So if you have a post with 10 links in it, instead of 10 maps appearing, only 1 map would appear for the first link that we might embed.
This was what I was wanting to avoid on the WNKR/TNRC threads but on reflection I'm now wondering if this is really an issue. It was a problem when we did cut and paste lists on vBulletin but now we are setting rides up as events there should be no need to repost the link repeatedly. I do keep falling into the trap of trying to work out how to use this new forum in the same way I used to use the old one.

I've just had weird thing, I tried sending separate messages to two people about a classifieds ad, and it ended up making a group conversation with all 3 of us with both messages, one after the other. How??
I clicked on the first user, clicked send message, wrote message, sent message.
I then clicked on the second user, clicked send message, wrote message (in the top corner where it says 'who can see and reply to this' there was just the one guy. When I sent it, however, I got a message with all 3 of us with both messages.
I tried doing it again, and the same thing happened. It's all a bit awkward.

Getting a server error when trying to upload an image (have tried a couple of times now)
It's worse than you think. It was 'input field' that I didn't get.
I work with people who, without exception, know less about bikes and cycling than I do. (I mean the clients, not my fellow instructors, though...). Anyway I, as regards computers. am equivalent to the person who looks at me blankly when I say their saddle is loose, And goes in to a coma when I suggest they change gear.
Thanks for trying, anyway.
