In all honesty the cameras on Android phones, and accompanying camera apps, are just not equal to the iPhone 5.
The best out there are the Sony Xperia Z2, and the Samsung Galaxy S5.
But... the Samsung feels cheap and you have to put up with the raft of crappy changes made it Android, so all that money on a quality bit of hardware is tainted by their software.
The Sony on the other hand looks great, has a fantastic camera sensor (which beats the iPhone 5 by some margin).
The only problems with the Sony are:
- That's one impressive price tag
- I don't know anyone with one to vouch for the real world experience matching the specs
If you can try a Sony, do. Otherwise the iPhone is the best camera if the camera and photo apps is a really high priority.
There's a long review of the Z2 here: http://www.theverge.com/2014/4/21/5630502/sony-xperia-z2-and-z2-tablet-review

Spent 3 weeks on the road with my friend who has an iPhone 5s. The camera on that compared to my Nexus 4 is next level. Which Android phone can stop me buying an iPhone 6 just for the camera?
I think I've spent the last 5 years telling myself I don't need a good phone camera because I have a real camera, but I've just been kidding myself. I don't own a point and shoot and based on the results the iPhone 5s produced, I shouldn't need one...!
