Please tell me you're kidding! Gear ratio looks perfectly normal and that thing is pretty rad!

You plank. Saving weight is only useful for climbing. Guess what sort of gear you need for that. The freewheel, brakes, top quality stem and forks and those stiff wheels suggests it's built for going quickly down a mountain too.
