  • Also, I found the durano wore faster than the conti

  • Crazy durable but the Durano Plus in particular do nothing to soak up potholes.

Vittoria Open Pave 27mm, Challenge Strada Bianca 30mm, and lastly, the good old Conti GP4000s in 28mm.

Those are the tyres I'd go for if I want a different option beside the Grand Bois Cerf 29mm.

  • hippy

Maybe I should just put a Durano on my commuter. Problem is the Durano
Plus takes soooooo long to wear out. It's gotta be 2-3 years old and
considering my mileage that's fucking great.

Bontrager All Weather Hardcase last equally as long too.

  • A friend is off to Ventoux and wants a tyre upgrade, 25 mm clincher tyres for alpine riding?

Am suggesting latex inner tubes, his wheels are not carbon. Any preferred manufacturers?

  • Michelin Pro4 25mm with their A1 22-23mm latex tubes work very nicely in combo. I've not taken that combo to the alps but wouldn't hesitate. Don't drag the rear brake and any race tyre with those tubes will be ok.

Whatever tyre they go for maybe suggest having a spare tyre back at the hotel/HQ/megayacht. That way they can ride relatively uninterrupted rather than waiting for bike shops to open etc.

  • Pro comp or pro service course? Am assuming the latter.

  • Yep.

Not sure the Comps are available in 25mm clincher.

  • Latex tubes + Veloflex (Master for tan walls, Corsa for black) 25c is the best combination IMHO. Or Vittoria Corsa Evo SC / CX in 25c.

  • Impressed by first 100 miles of Schwalbe One 25mm

  • Your first ever Century?

  • No; just commuting miles

  • Just tried out the Veloflex Pavés I bought last week, even 22c's are way plusher than anything I've ridden before. Definitely getting 25c when these have worn out

  • Can anyone recommend a nice, but not too-pricey clincher for not-very-muddy SSCX, that'll be also be used on gravel/road commutes too. So a good all-rounder I suppose?

Currently got recommendations for Conti Cross Speed, Michelin Cyclocross Mud 2, and Maxxis Raze CX. They seem very much oriented towards "proper" mud though?

Something that isn't directional would be great too - it's possible a bit of fixed/free flip-flopping will happen.

  • Vittoria Cross XN Pro for me, no punctures so far, rolls fast, good for road, gravel and paths, ok for other off road stuff, not too heavy.

  • What other tubeless tyres available out there? I'm trying to find 25, but seems like they only come in 23 and all Schwalbe ZX and One are out of stock.

  • Cheers fella :) Another one for the list!

Similar looking tread to the Conti Speed King thingy. Both are on cheaps at Wiggle. The Vittoria's half price and still £35! Feels a bit ostentatious to chuck £120 worth of rubber on a £130 frame :D

  • ^ Cross XN on wiggle is tubular version. Clinchers are much cheaper.

  • Yeah totally missed that. Thanks man! That's a really good price too, even including shipping they're cheaper than the Contis.

  • Didn't knew that (fast) cx tyre - repped

  • They have stopped making the ZX and now only make the One.
Everywhere seems to be out of the 25c but Starbike and Bike-Discount have them in 23 for £20 each.
Doc Blue sealant is about £6 and Stans valves are about £12.

  • Thanks Henry! Couldn't find any ZX in stock at Starbike and there's only one left in Bike-Discount. Stock of "One" expected at the end of August. My wheels came with valves and I still have plenty of Conti sealant left.

  • Looking for a replacement for GP4000s. Too many side wall cuts on conti tyres recently. I've got some michelin pro4 sc but already had one puncture and don't look like they'd cope with UK roads v well. So any suggestions on 'racing' clinchers?

  • Just get the Ones, it's the only choice and they claim it's their quickest tyre so it can't be bad. My rear ZX will need replacing soon, in October it will be 1 year old and it's starting to get very cut up although still no punctures.

  • Sounds good. Can't find any in stock at the moment, not that I'm on the rush or anything.

  • Would you mind to explain what happened and how? We rode up and down some very rough alpine off-road on these tyres and no failure.
