You're right BQ, I didn't understand why they left the cover but it was obviously cause they rode it off.
Recovered it from the pound today (£160) and got a pal to trailer to my folks (£50). Minimal pillage but will need new ignition and associated key set (£80 odd), right pannier and rack replaced (£100 odd), Givi topbox (£50-100) and maybe a scratch or two painting over.
All in all with an excess on my policy of £500 I'm better off not claiming, what a waste of time. At least she's back and hopefully not too ragged.
Putting bikes in vans is an amateur's trick.
Police say that most thieves do this, but they mean most thieves that are caught do this.
Successful bike thieves break locks, hotwire bikes, defeat alarms and ride away.
Even a slow bike can escape from a police car most of the time, whereas vans get stuck in traffic and deliver the thieves to the scene of their arrest.
