  • Have got Minimalist going now, thanks!

  • No worries.

Was just reading an article totally unrelated to his on New Yorker, would you believe they use a font almost 10% larger than ours?

  • Subtle changes for today:

    • Search messages
    • Search single message
    • Removed "Got something to add?" above action buttons
    • Removed extra pixel from search form
    • Renamed "Start a conversation" to "Post conversation"
    • Renamed "Start an event" to "Post event"
    • Tidied up a small part of pagination in order to re-assess how it should look on mobile in readiness of header navigation being repeated in the footer
  • They haven't got comments enabled either, so they're a terrible analogue to a discussion forum.

All of the chat about "fonts are better if they're big!" seems to centre around what's best for articles and blog posts, rather than what's best for a collection of (often very short) comments from multiple people who are taking part in a conversation, sometimes with each other and sometimes around each other. I still haven't seen any genuinely convincing arguments in that respect - people just don't sit down and read forums in the same way that they'll read magazine articles or books.

  • Ta. Can we get a 'Search in Thread' kind of thing and a clicky clicky button thing for searching posts by a user. ie. I can't find my mention of Shimano Direct Mount brakes because I couldn't remember what they were called but if I could filter on my own posts.

  • Also, what's with all the 502 gateway errors I keep getting when posting?

  • I don't even have a Last button on the mobile version any more.

  • Yeah only really works on desktop - although clicking "first" button takes you to the top (of the first page), not ideal but works for me until the second nav bar comes in

  • Search in thread is already there... on the right (probably near the top) >>>>

With author, I'm prioritising other more essential bugs as I couldn't find an example of anyone searching by author in the old vBulletin database (it cached queries, I could see the args).

Because we already support it with authorId:47714 (for you) I'm treating it as lower priority than other more critical bugs that break layout or are navigation papercuts, etc.

When we've done all of the more critical things or low hanging fruit, we'll re-visit search to add authorId using a better method (most likely an @ autocomplete).

  • We deployed... CloudFlare choked... we had to force it down their throat.

  • Makes sense, ta.

  • Sign in is not possible from my iPhone 5s, or I get a message that my browser isn't supported. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong/have had my head in the sand and this is well known/etc. Am I just being a belm? Seems a bit daft if mobile safari is out.

  • And it worked a treat. It wasn't in the Groupset thread it was in Any Question..

    "Direct Mount"

  • @d-goods you probably have private browsing enabled.

Mozilla is doing the auth in a far more secure way than we could (they have a dedicated security team), and as they are a third party they need to be able to store on your phone session info, and to be able to pass that back to us.

Safari's "private browsing" mode is too aggressive and kills all 3rd party communication even when it's desired, thus breaking Persona on the iPhone.

    tldr: Turn off private browsing.

  • you must have wrote that out/cut and pasted so many times...thanks a lot #justthejob

  • You'd think.

But I just type it. It's quicker than finding wherever I posted it last.

  • @velocio If someone replies to you with a mention is it necessary to see both the new comment and the mention in your feed?

    • Capture.JPG
  • also, if you "drag your files into this area" how do you enter text after the image?

  • Mentions and Replies are different things, it would be remiss to start excluding different events. Should we not bump the thread on the following page either? It is intrinsically the same event that triggered the reply, mention and new comment.

When the filters are added to allow you to see just the replies, just the mentions, etc... then this makes even more sense.

  • You don't. You put the text above the image, in the comment box.

  • I'm just going to remove that text. It's confusing and browser-limited.

  • We should have that as our logo.

    Look at. It's glorious.

I even have a domain that would work for that.

    http://www.motherfuckingawesome.com
    (which presently redirects to LFGSS)

  • Its a bit funny that the thread update has username of replier by it no avatar and the reply update has avatar but no username.

Unless you've remembered the avatar then you cannot correlate the two updates and decide if they are different or not (I.e. more comments after the reply )

  • If anyone wants to use the font, it's called "cosmic chunder".

    • Italics
