For Sale: Holdsworth Worthy Frame & Forks, Lugged

Posted on
  • For sale: Holdsworth frame and forks in a rather fetching metallic red colour, headset, and seat post. This doesn't appear to be the original frame colour, judging by the areas around the lugs and BB it looks like this has been repainted (not by me).

I don't know a lot about the frame. I bought it from this forum a few years back, built it up and rode it for a little while before it got sent to the back of the garage where it's been sat for too long. It's time someone took it out and showed it the countryside.

The tubing seems pretty good. The frame is fairly light but I don't have any scales so can't weigh it. The BB threads are all good but could to with cleaning out.

    Measurements:
    Top tube (CTC) - 57cm
    Seat Tube (CTT) - 56cm
    Front dropout spacing - 110mm
    Rear dropout spacing - 120mm

The head tube badge reads "Worthy designed and built by W.F. Holdsworth London".
Pictures below, as you can see it needs a bit of a clean up:

I'm looking for £45, You can collect from Reading or I can try to post but no idea how much this'll cost (£10-£20 at a guess??). The seat post pictured comes with the F+F, it's nothing special but is the right size for the seat tube.
There are pump holder mounts on the down tube, and what I think is a mount for an old school light on the forks (but I might be wrong about this one).

Unfortunately the paint has obscured the frame number so I'm unable to get more info about this frame, and I don't really want to go scratching the paint off.

Any questions or if you want any more pictures then PM or post below and I'll try to oblige.

That's fine, PM received. You're first in line.

  • @HillyBen has 2nd dibs on this.

  • And @dangler has 3rd dibs.

  • I am going to pick up this frame tonight. I will, however, probably pass it on someone else as it doesn't look like a Holdsworth frame.
Lugs are similar to Gillott ones, but it is not unfortunately,.
Still, it's a quality frame from the pre-war, right-after-war era.

So if anyone's interested, give me a shout.

  • I will take it if you decide to pass on.

  • Perfect!

Will contact you once I pick it up tonight.
    Where are you based?

  • Just an update here that this frame looks like to be indeed a Holdsworth model from 1938 - 0 (a La Variable model.)
This was confirmed by the Holdsworth marque enthusiast at the Veteran Cycling Club. There's a thread on Current Projects for it.
