• Yes, just like mine but being pedantic the pointy bit on mine seems slightly shorter.
Frame number on mine is stamped on the lower part of the track end rather than top but the font of the stamp looks the same.

  • Might email the chaps at the Viking website and see what they think. cheers!

You've also reminded me I need to fit that spearpoint extension to the Super Lenton and sort the hub out....

  • Just picked this up

It's a 1948 Paris Tour de France.....it's been hand painted over the main tubes though.

  • Oooo, that's lovely!

    Full restoration planned?

  • I'm not one for full restos as a rule.....I like to see the battle scars and 'oldness', but I'll attack the paint, remove unwanted clutter and see what unfolds.....it would benefit from a paint job though, in which case I'll go all out.....I think!

  • nice find :)

  • Hi got this fh scott anyone possibly know dates im guessing 1950 ish ? Thinking I might have to build it up when funds are available.

  • This and the Paris are great finds!

If that band on downtube shifter boss is doublesided, gaurd it with your life, they're like hens teeth. The only place I could find one was eBay in the US.

  • And in reply to age, those lugs look like slightly later Nervex Pros so post '55. Loads more info here:

  • Thanks for your help. in that case im outta here. Still gonna build it hopefully at some point. And in response to the downshifter its only on one side a five or six speed I guess. Thx again

  • Take that back I ll show you folks the very slow progression with this. As the first post does state 50s so if theres not any objections the scott will be back haha

  • All progress, no mater how slow or minor, will certainly be appriciated in my neck of woods, Mr Bear

  • So the good news is that I've finished stripping the frame. The bad news is that the BB shell is flared so it'll need a trip to a frame builder to sort....

  • I guess the Holdsworth La Variable from around 1939 fits well here too:

It also has its own build thread under Current Projects

  • So, I'm needing to regear my Hobbs for Eroica Britannia next year.
Pretty much have to keep the SA 4 speed so looking for a hand/rod/pull operated front derailleur and a two front ring/tensioner setup. Anyone got any brand names of British parts I should be on the lookout for?

  • Hybrid gearing
or you could consider this option Hybrid Hub/Derailleur Gears

  • That hybrid gearing article is the one I was after! @Big_Block
If anyone's got any of those bits lying round, they'd be going to a great home for good money.

  • That Hobbs is tasty, any more photos?

  • I've forgotten about this thread.....the paris has taken a bit of a back seat for now.....stripping the hand painted bits back to reveal the original paint is very laborious.....
I've discovered the original downtube decals though, and it's conclusively a Tour de France......I'm still torn on whether to rub back, seal then build, or to go full on resto. As its a bit small for me, I think the cheap, time consuming option will win!
    More work will happen soon.....

  • Tempted by this thread to look into a new project, and came across this Claud Butler with Nervex Lugs, that I might consider picking up:
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Claude-Butler-vintage-bicycle-frame-/201256012987?pt=UK_Bikes_GL&hash=item2edbcb0cbb
Any insight into whether the London with Olympic rings on the headtube badge suggests it is from '48 olympics?

  • A lot of Claud butlers had the Olympic ring badge on them due to the 32 Olympics I belive. Loads of info here

I wouldn't touch this personally as it's had a head on, which is a shame. Save your money and spend it on another vintage frame would be my advice.

  • Thanks @Ecobeard - I'll take that on board, and keep looking...

  • The kickstand fashioned from an empty litre bottle of Grouse just completes it.
How did you fix it to the bottom bracket?
