It's been about a year since I bought a bike, and my current commuter is getting a little old.
Amongst my riding buds there's been talk of doing some cross this winter, so I'm retiring the fixie for now in favour of something that's a little more comfortable on the road, and capable of going off the road, without being too expensive.
So the boring and obvious answer is a Pompino. They're cheaps ey? I can swap a lot of bits over from the current bike to help with the cost, and I'm having my existing cheap-but-dependable hubs rebuilt onto some disproportionately nice rims by my LBS.
Very little is gonna happen in this thread for a week or so, but in the meantime I thought I'd stick up a build list in case anyone fancies doling out some advice.
If there's any ideas on where I might be able to improve the list, along the lines of "better price for that part" or "better part for that price", I would love to hear it. A lot of that list was picked on the basis of stuff that doesn't look too shit for the money, or on the basis of being black.
Although I have no idea what constitutes a "good value" headset, and I think compressionless braking would be cool but I can't work out which Jagwire kit I need? Is it possible to just buy the outers?
Oh and if anyone wants to punt some second hand stuff my way, I'm interested in that too :)
