Swap bars and levers

Posted on
  • My other halfs bike was stolen at the weekend (d locked to a wall bracket at the back of the house) and so I need to sort out a replacement. I have a pearson touche that I have not ridden for a while but i need to make some changes before she can ride it.

It has bullhorn style bars and I want to swap these for a set of drop bars with compatiable levers. I understand there are different widths available so if someone could point me in the right direction i'd be grateful I'm not sure what size the stem is.

I might also have to swap the stem as i think i read somewhere women have a shorter reach.

Here are some pictures of the current set up

I'm looking for some cheap bars and levers but not too cheap as to being useless all recommendations appreciated. I'm not very skilled when it comes to mechanics so if it's best left to the professionals then that's fine.

    regards
    Michael

  • Hi Michael,

You need to check the diameter of the current bars fitted to the bike. It will be either 25.4/26mm (standard) or 31.8mm (Oversized or OS).

Then you need to source replacement drop bars with the same clamping diameter so you can keep your current stem.

Since it is for your other half, you need to identify the width, reach and drop depth of the bars that suit her (would guess circa 38cm ctc, short reach, shallow drop).

Buy the bars, aero brake levers, road inner brake cables and fresh bar tape. You will be able to reuse the inner cable.

Check Ribble for all the kit, here are some ideas:
    Bars £15
    Aero Levers £11
    Bar tape £5

  • Cheers Vince I really Appreaciate that.
