• Unusual correlation between people who believe collective responsibility of an outgroup of road users is a myth and compare it to racism/sexism yet have no issues talking about taxi drivers, addison lee drivers and coppers as homogenous groups.

Except that isn't a fair comparison.

Black cab drivers, AL drivers and coppers DO have a level collective responsibility as they are part of a formal organisation with a heirachy and responsibilities, and their leadership have a responsibility towards and from their members.

It's not like if I want to ride a bike I have to join the CTC and I'm a dick on a bike the head of the CTC can apologise to the public and fire me from bikes.

  • Except that I'm not talking about professional bodies, accountability and who to complain to. I'm talking about perceptions and the effect a negative encounter with a member of one of these outgroups has on your perception of all members of that outgroup. And beyond that, we can talk about (as hippy mentioned above) audi drivers, BMW drivers and so forth who have no formal organisation.

What I will say with regards to accountability, however, is that as a cyclist and road user, you have a responsibility to ride in a safe and considerate manner, obeying the highway code. When you fail to do so, no-one can complain to the CTC about you in particular, but other road users/pedestrians/whoever, can complain to police/councils/whoever about inconsiderate cyclists cutting them up, riding on the pavement, riding through red lights and so forth. Or they might just become enraged and shout at or cut up another cyclist further down the road.
