  • Fuck that's cheap. They're almost disposable compared to the Exposure prices.

  • He's agreed to refund me £4, but not without complaining that the lights cost him £15.99, so he doesn't make any money on them. Excellent business sense...

  • There is a site that compares lots of lights with pictures for illumination distance and beam profile. I can't recall what it is but it has been mentioned on here before.

  • That's the one I posted above, which as you say has been posted before. I'm sure I've seen a similar one with other lights in but cannot find it. It's the sort of thing I would have bookmarked. Either I forgot to, or, imagined it.

  • ^ I did wonder about that.

  • To update, the light survived the night with ease. Mostly on the lowest constantly on setting, with a bit of flashing and a bit of high beam. ~7hrs on in total.

Can confirm that these things are really ridiculously bright. Even the lowest setting it easily outshone my Cateye Volt 300. The beam is pretty wide, don't know if there's replacement lenses for the two LED version? I guess I'll have a look around.

Was only exposed to a few showers, but held up fine, no fires!

  • Obviously only a secondary light, but did anyone else spot this on kickstarter?

  • I predict an increase in UFO sightings

  • Looks like my newest rave gizmo.

  • There must be some new Exposure lights in the works, Rutland Cycles are offering up to 40% off existing models (whilst stocks last):

  • What's the red rear light that is a horizontal thin bar of searing red light? Looks like a black rectangle with a small crack into hell.

My exposure flare is dying and I need to replace it with something, and these things are the ones that have stood out even in the summer evenings.

  • The Moon Comet I think? There are two versions, bright and retina melting...

  • No worries, found it... it's the Moon Comet.

  • There's a retina melting version? That's the one with the crack into hell.

  • Trying to remember when I got some for L's bike. Pretty sure if you got a set, one of the lights was rated lower than if you bought then individually. May have been the front Comet, may be completely mistaken!

  • No worries, found it... it's the Moon Comet.

Don't get the undersaddle bracket though - the lights ended up vibrating out of it more often than not.

  • Wiggle have a sale on, it's only £16. It comes with whatever it comes with. If there's any problems there's a 3d printer on Clerkenwell Road and I'll have a new bracket knocked up.

  • I haven't found that at all. Battery life is a little poor though.

  • Battery life is a little poor though.

That was my real concern. That and USB charging. I prefer the Exposure's for their nice big batteries that I can charge normally or in the worst case scenario pop into a shop for.

  • I only use mine for racing so it's fine, but I think I'd get annoyed with the battery life if I was commuting with it. Surprised you'd find USB charging a problem, you must have a USB wall adaptor?

  • Most nights we have on USB charge some combination of:

    • Phone
    • Girlfriend's phone
    • Kindle
    • iPad
    • Nexus 7
    • GoPro
    • MP3 player

It's already a mess of cables.

What I want are higher capacity batteries that last longer (get charged less frequently) and that I can swap out for spares. What I want are batteries that charge faster and can discharge faster (higher voltage) so that the lights are bright.

That exists today, they're called CR123 batteries. They charge fast, hold a ton of charge, and can power really bright lights (my torch uses one and goes to 500 lumens).

So yeah... USB charge can >>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I liked the Moon for brightness and cheapness, but when I can afford to I'll go back to Exposure for battery support + brightness.

  • I haven't found that at all. Battery life is a little poor though.

I lost one to the wheels of a bus and haven't used the bracket since! I must be unlucky :(

@Velocio, the Comet can charge off a powered USB hub quite easily. One similar to this can charge four Moon lights no problem and tucks away quite neatly.

Having said that though, I'm looking to replace some sockets in my room with these .

  • So, why not get another Flare? I like their blinky mode.
