  • That Optimum move at 13m05sek - two man army beheading the bigger trains

  • As someone said on Twitter; what did he hit? A grenade?

  • Tao at 29 seconds?

  • Wiggo spotted in Bar Italia this morning (care of Leon Cerrone on Instagram).

And then doing laps of Regents Park. So Rapha.

  • Ha, I didn't see him

  • Go Cadel!

  • Cadel did it!

  • Khaled did it!

  • It was his brother's wedding yesterday, so he's probably sweating alcohol. I'd be surprised if he finished.

  • This Denbies climb is a shitty bit of road

  • I'd love to see Caleb Ewan win this.

  • This is quality.

  • Moar updates. Stuck in the ether.

  • Boom - fucking yes!

  • Great to see him thriving

  • Great kick at the end there

  • anyone watching Utah? looks like it could be a good race up this last climb.

  • I thought the Surrey race was actually not bad.

80km of changing dynamics in a strong break. I think the wind helped.

Gilbert is a hard bastard. If he'd had a few more tough points on the course (to inflict mysery) I think he'd have won.

  • Yes, the Surrey 'classic'. I think after the Olympic Road Race, the TdF Stage 3 and this race I'm so bored of the race finishing on the Mall, and talk of the 'iconic' Box Hill climb. From a TV point of view, the roads lack any of the drama afforded by, for example, the Yorkshire stages.

Nothing wrong with the race per se, it's just the parcours is uninspiring and it's very London-centric. That said I watched it and enjoyed it, plenty of drama if very few 'names' riding it. Clever sprint by Blythe to snatch it at the end. Must be nice punching past a World Champ.

  • Imagine if the backing was there for a race in the Lake District running into Manchester, or the Brecons then over the Severn bridge into Bristol?

Such potential, it's a shame it's in Surrey.

  • Imagine if the backing was there for a race in the Lake District running into Manchester,

It would have to be a bloody long race, with a long flat run for the last 150km.

I actually thought the parcours was quite good this year for animating the race.

  • Just being a little churlish really, but the hyperbole about the event and route is overblown. Miro gets to the heart of it: there is so much potential to have a really iconic one-day race, from the Beacons to Bristol would be spectacular, and you could put them both over the Severn Bridge and the Suspension Bridge. I'm looking forward to the Worcester to Bristol stage in the ToB, has the potential to be a little Ardennes-esque. Those two are purely selfish suggestions, but there is plenty of great scenery and challenging climbs out there rather than the 'meh' of Surrey roads.

But it was a good race, there were selections and hard racing, and it had drama at the end.
