  • The great track standing competition.

At yesterday's Ride London mass cycling event all over the west end and city London Cycling Campaign ran a track standing competition.
As a spectator sport it fits somewhere between watching paint dry and watching county cricket.
Early in the day someone set a time of 5 minutes - that was it we thought. No one will want to stand around for much longer than that, except that the prize was a new Tokyo Fixed.
Then came the forum's own @photoben and put in an amazing time of 25 minutes, he really wanted that bike.
We thought it was all over, no one was even interested in trying to beat that. As a spectator draw to the LCC stall it was not working well. We were about to sign the bike over to Ben but then after lunch along came Logan de Monchaux-Irons, Cycle Club Hackney's 14 year old star. He hopped on the bike and stayed and stayed and stayed. There was a bit of a wobble around 24 minutes 30 but he held on, passed 25 and went on to go over 30 minutes.
I'm sorry you missed it Ben but there is no stopping these young kids. On Thursday LCC's Amy was put out of the street velodrome racing at Broadgate by another 14 year old.
