brick lane bike market

  • NOW THAT I AM AWARE OF THE REASON IT WAS SO CHEAP, I WOULD LIKE TO MAKE CLEAR THAT BUYING STOLEN GOODS IS THE LAST THING ON MY MIND!
A year or two ago I was in London and chanced upon a bike market near Brick Lane, which sold a lot of low quality second hand bike parts, but were very cheap!
My next build needs exactly that!
I'll be in London some time next week, so does anyone know if this market still runs? And if so what day/time?
Alternatively if anyone has a cheap set of fixed/free wheels which can fit 35c tyres for sale, let me know.
Weight not an issue, I just need them to be strong, and able to run freewheel as well as fixed so I can ride cyclocross (not properly, don't worry)
    regards

  • Eulis,

The "Brick Lane Bike Market" has a reputation for selling stolen bikes and stolen parts. By buying here you run this risk of helping to perpetuate the demand for people to steal bikes.

Alternatively, look in the classified forum.

  • ah that's what I thought! I rarely visit London, so excuse my ignorance. I just remember passing and seeing a load of bike parts being sold cheaply, I didn't look very closely. In my innocence I just assumed it was an organised sale where people go to flog their unwanted bike goods, we get them occasionally in Bristol. Thank you for informing me otherwise though.

  • A good way to check their authenticity is to ask obscure questions and gauge their answers.

"Could I use this with my existing slot badger, or will I need to buy a new two pin din plug?"

    • "Yeah of course, fits all sizes. £10"
  • That's a very good point actually. I might encounter some really clued up thieves though..

  • Reading all this should I consider BLM as a no no as I did thought of visiting, being a naïve Hertfordshire yokel.

  • Yes me too. I had very little knowledge before, but the stolen goods industry is not one I wish to be supporting
