Unless it's part of the frame, but even then...

Any recommendations for a pampery spa kinda thing? Potters bar/central.

Doppelkorn, do the right thing. You know what that is really don't you?
Consider this Capri.

Thought so...needed a sanity check.

My 1" threaded headset has developed a knotch that it sits in at 0 degrees, apparently this is due to me using my front brake when it wasn't tight enough. Does anyone know if I've fubared it, or can I just replace the bearings?
-
• #62609
I think that depends on the colour, and how subtle or matching. If the rack is the same colour as the frame that's cool, but also consider this bike Superted built for his mum:

^^ I would guess the notch would be in the race itself - can you get a replacement for that?
-
• #62611
That Capri is fantastically gross.
-
• #62612
Possibly. It's Dura-Ace though :-(

Passage, or Levin if you really want to go uptown.

It is buggered. The bottom bearing face will be dented, as might the top, so replace your headset.

Thanks. Thought as much.

I'm missing the powerful old search function a bit already.
Please tell me how... I'm making changes soon and want to know how people used search that isn't working now (aside from date sorting).
-
• #62617
Searches I used to do:
Search all thread titles for wordsSearch current thread for words
Search all threads for words and optionally author
Just those three with posts listed in reverse date order would be enough for me. And via a simple form, not by having to type in the search parameter syntax.

When I type Shit into the search bar (to find the thread "Shit fixie skidders...") I get this:
Server Error
We're sorry, there was a temporary error when we tried to process your request. The error has been logged. Please try again later.

Now it works - but doesn't give me the thread - the old system had title search as the default, the current doesn't.

It's the races that are trashed: micro-welds have formed between them and the bearings, when you turn the steerer, the bearing moves and takes a bit of race with it, resulting in the pits.
As a short-term fix, you could either rotate the races (sometimes they are only pitted in one section) or change the number of bearings (if the bearings are caged, remove cage and add a bearing or vice versa).
The object is to mix things up, so the bearings and pits no longer match: the second is the most effective in doing that.
Either way, ultimately you'll need a replacement.

clubman will find his way here. He's not on here that much (not every day) and may just not have noticed the changeover yet.

Sorry I'm not trying to trash the new site!
Things I liked:
Searching with prefixes (e.g. For Sale)
Searching within certain forums
Searching within threads
Searching fir just titles or whole posts
Search results as titles/individual posts
Could you search by member? That was good too.Have I completely missed something or is it all gone?
-
• #62623
It's not all gone, most of that is supported.
But instead of having different search forms, with different options, and different ways of displaying the results... we wanted one search form that finds everything.
All of the above is supported. But right now we've not got the UX right for how to display those options.
For example, you should be able to @Velocio in the search box to filter results just by the stuff I've posted. But at the moment you have to do
authorId:47686
which works... but is ugly and clunky. And to search just titles the search gets
inTitle:true
... which is offered as an option on the right hand side of the search results page. These things do exist, but they're not yet convenient to access.
The biggest criticism I have of search didn't come up in any of the user testing, nor the months we ran the test site, nor the weeks we ran the imported test site... the search results don't factor in the date of the item when sorting the results.
So if you search for "for sale bottom bracket", you might get something really old, and you can't sort it by date.
For me, that's the biggest missing thing, the real bug.
The rest is stuff that really needs to be improved fast, but those are UX issues rather than flaws in the actual engine. Things like defaulting to searching titles would fix a lot of those issues... and to have some way to tick a checkbox to search within the current conversation or forum (pre-populating those other options implicitly).

Sorry I'm not trying to trash the new site!
Do!
Seriously, we want feedback.
We spent months asking for it, we invited people in for UX testing, we launched test versions, we demonstrated the import in advance, we invited people to kick tyes... yet this stuff never came up.
We want it to be improved, so please do provide feedback.
We're far less interested in angry people throwing strops and not being constructive, but we love feedback from people who realise we want to make things better fast and help us by providing the info we need to either reproduce an issue or to understand what isn't working. Feedback is very appreciated when it's like that.
To everyone reading... yes, provide feedback. Though perhaps in a thread that I'm reading daily (the subtle bugs one is a good contender).

If I type 'Android' into the search I want the android thread, not users called android and not a pile of posts mentioning 'android'.
I used to use the 'No Prefix' option to filter out all Classifieds when searching.
Why is the search box already populated with 'conversations' or whatever? That should disappear. Just default it to conversations and titles only initially then allow finer control (advanced search).
I'm missing the powerful old search function a bit already.
ANYWAY...
Colour matching a rear rack to the frame - porn, anti or there's not a name for it because it's that shit?
I was thinking orange or yellow, but with black mudguards.
It's anti isn't it? Trying too hard.
