    KOPS rule

Do that ^ first, then work out what you need.

    http://sheldonbrown.com/kops.html

  • Interesting read.

    Although;

The KOPS rule of thumb has no biomechanical basis at all. It is, at best, a coincidental relationship that puts the rider somewhere near his or her correct position.

...point being I still think it's an ok way to get a rough gauge of where your saddle should be, which then helps you work out your stem length.

Not decisive, nor ideal, but probably worth doing before switching to an inline seatpost.

  • Thought I'd put a little update up, not much has changed but I got a re-issue Flite Ti for Xmas, which has replaced the tatty Flite Max which was on there, and there are some kool-stop salmon pads on there now. The busy bartape is on its last legs but I'll let it wear out completely before I replace it. Future changes will include 23c tyres for spring summer and possibly some different more compact bars.

(Was going to take a nice photo in the park, but it pissed it down, so its a badly lit indoor one.)

  • Not really an update at all, just a much better photo, this time in a suitable setting at the very end of the Sheeps Head Peninsular Co. Cork Ireland, rather than my old living room.

The new tires mentioned above never happened, and now it seems summer is at its end, so the marathon 25c will be staying for now, but mudguards and new bar tape are looking fairly likely for the winter.

  • great build and a lovely setting!
there was a good article in the lcc magazine a little while back - might be of interest: http://lcc.org.uk/articles/london-classics-roberts

  • The new Flite is a big improvement... have you thought about silver spacers?

  • @gaz, yep have thought about silver spacers, something for the next strip down I think. I think that with a 100mm stem I could probably loose one of the bottom spacers anyways.

@john cheers, thanks for the link!

  • Hi All
    I'm wondering if this is a Roberts...serial nos starts 88 ..1988?

Pearlescent white no decals, Cinelli BB, stems....smooth gorgeous "lugless" curved tube intersects..R embossed on the rear stay(..clue in the title).
Just pulled this frame out of the cellar..ended up there after someone nicked the back wheel back around 2009. Shimano Groupset.
Took me a year plus of looking for a pair of Sante hubs...and similar to find a secondhand Sante Crankset..
Got it around 2006 off the original owner, who said he paid £1500.00 new!! I was embarrassed and pleased at the price I bought it for..
Had no idea other than it was light and I was pleased...only realised what I had when I tried to locate the wheels and crankset.
Now how to go about restoring it??..the paintwork has chips but that's to be expected..carefully patch the chips?..is this straying into the realms of science fiction?

But mainly wondering if folks can confirm it's a Roberts frame.

  • cheers for the post - frame looks really nice
I'm not sure about serial numbers etc... maybe try ringing roberts?
there's some more info in the Roberts owners thread - http://www.lfgss.com/conversations/206627/?offset=150

  • Roberts serial numbers run:
    Year/Month/Production number

So if you have 88, followed by two digits that could refer to a month, followed by another two digits, this would indicate an '88 Roberts. The fillet brazing and the embossed 'R' certainly suggest it is, anyway.

  • Thanks..I was going to email Roberts but couldn't get their address..instant messager or something popped up and I'm a luddite where computers are concerned(...and where they aren't too!).

  • The embossed R is definitely in the old Roberts style, though I haven't seen it on the brake bridge before.

  • Looks like a Roberts to me... Both of mine have the embossed R brake bridge exactly like that.
