Save save save!
Haha I'm so terrible at doing that.
I'll have paid my current Bike To Work bike off in December so January I could have a new bike without having to save at all.

Pre-crashed top tube, anyone...

Trek is all about the pre-crash look after the Lance Armstrong debacle.

The Kona Sutra is only £50 more than the croix de fer and seems on a par if not better spec'd

No forward facing weapon, so the options are exclusively fight or flight, can't simultaneously fight and flee.

Yeah, would work much better as a tandem with a rear facing gunner.

@plexarice The Tour de Fer would be the Sutra's competition, rather than the CdF.
Not only it's a much better spec than the Sutra, but it's £900.

I love it! that frame's got bags of clearance, and it's nice that you can get your bars to roughly your saddle hight.
I've been toying with the idea of retroshift for a while now. how do you find them? -
• #7518
Does anyone know where I can get a bar the Jeff Jones one, but not quite as extortionate..
-
• #7519
Do you need the front section? Salsa Bend 2 and Jones Bend H-bar are similar but still a bit pricey...
Other options are bidding on this or the 'Humpert Space Bugel' available from Practical Cycles (these aren't as wide, have a weird rise to them, but are super cheap)
I'm waiting until someone I know decided to buy a stock Surly and ends up swapping the bars.

Would like to have the front section. The humpert space bugel might be a good shout, not quite as nice but much much cheaper.
-
• #7521
Yeah, just be aware they have that 40mm rise, as well as all the sweep-back
-
• #7522
An even cheaper option: http://www.rosebikes.co.uk/article/xtreme-pro-free-town-ii-handlebar/aid:257352
Only 630mm wide though and again, I believe they have quite a rise to them...

I fancy a set of Jones bars but the budget won't stretch. H bars would be my preference over those with a closed loop, for mainly aesthetic reasons. Would taking a hacksaw to a set of the loop on a set of these cheaper alternatives be lunacy? Ie does the loop being continual add much strength?
No bike to work scheme option with Canyon though so I'd need the money up front, which I wont have. It's a shame really.
