One of the best compilations I ever bought - I shudder to think of what they've missed out from the CD version.

Ferox was a favourite label, it's funny how what was considered techno back then is now looked at as house music. When I came to London I met Russ Gabriel at the first club I went to, he used to live on Curtain Road in Shoreditch, long before it was cool. He then moved to Berlin, which makes him sound like an utter hipster, which he really was not. He is now running Funky Barber Films.

TBH some of these are techno in my mind but I couldn't stand what I heard in that thread. Plus I like that point that blurs the lines.

i agree, still pretty techno but the lines are blurred in this day and age - too many people pigeon holeing maybe? that first aubrey pervert one is nice nice nice

The Joy Orbison Essential Mix is a nice statement of the current blur of everything house to techno to fuck knows whut.

i quite enjoyed it though. i know he's a bit of a poster boy of the generation but he is a decent producer and if you've ever been to his night (me&you in manchester) he does dig deep.
plus this track off it I'm really feeling

Jamie Anderson (outta Bristol?) is another one that successfully blurs the lines. There's a track he did called Green Nova that is the shitttt but.... * edit * it's finally been uploaded to YouTube:

FFS someone has started a trance thread, a genre of gross musical cliches that makes me cringe whenever I hear it. There are a few obvious exceptions such as Jam and Spoon but for the most part it is funk less drivel. Am just hoping Hippy does not have any merging inclinations.
At least it will give me an idea of who to put on ignore when we get that function.

there was a period about '92 - '94 there was some wicked Euro 'Trance' going on, but this had nothing to do with what later became termed as 'Trance' - Tiesto and all that gubbins - more Progressive House/Techno in origin.........CJ Bolland, Sven Vath etc.

I agree, but most of what people call trance is utter bobbins. The wagada wagada bass line, drum rolls, arpeggio nonsense can fuck off.
would you follow?
