This is probably the best thread for this Q:
I'm looking for a big rucksack for weeks away. I have a bigxtop rucksack but its not big enough for when im hitting the 4 day mark, with my laptop and a change of clothes each day + other crap
I really really like the Topo Travel Bag but its not available in the UK and shipping/import is insane,
any one got any advice for something fairly similar? Something more interesting than your standard camping/backpacking bag ideally

Do you have a TKMaxx near you?
The two I frequent cyrrently have a range of Nitro messenger bags & ruck sacks amongst all the crap sub-fashion bags and kids school rucksacks.I got a Nitro Lock

37 litres
Obviously stock may be sketchy, but I have normally found TKM staff helpful
& willing to check the 'warehouse' out back. -

Anywhere know where one might be able to pick up a T Level Infinity backpack? Can't find any UK stockists these days.

Chrome Boris is decent.
Easily manages a week worth of clothes plus laptop and work stuff. Opens right up so it's easy to pack and is pretty tough.

Im not sure if these bags have been referenced here before. A friend from uni has one of these and it looks well constructed at decent prices, although not cycle specific it will do the job. If I upgraded my backpack I would go this way.....

.....in addition, this is Lomo's cycling specific bag and it's on sale at the moment at a decent price, £14.99.
The model obviously has never ridden with a messenger bag hung around is arse!

I just came on here to post about Lomo. Brilliant Scottish company making high quality waterproof bags for a very decent price. Great customer service too.
I bought the 60L bag below from them. Very waterproof! I empty it, and roll it down to use as a beanbag. With my full body weight on it for half an hour it doesn't lose any air. So it certainly won't allow any rain to come in.
I've had it for 6 months now and the only problem i've had is one of the seams has started to get undone. I've emailed them about it and a replacement has just arrived.
All that for a grand total of £21!!

Just gonna add that I was overloading the bag, carrying very heavy stuff inside and strapping two frames on the outside then cycling across London. So taking that into consideration i'll forgive the seams.

^ yeah, for the money its a no brainer.

I bought some of that Lomo stuff a while ago.
My brother got the black rucksack mentioned above. It works fine, and does what it's supposed to do. It's also quite sturdy. Would recommend.
I got the Messenger Bag for myself. It's nicely waterproof, but actually very small. The pictures make it look big, must have used a really small model.
You barely can fit a 1.5l bottle of water in there, and there's no chance of getting a 15" laptop to fit. My 14" barely fits without a sleeve, and then you can't take any drinks.Still very sturdy. Would recommend if you travel light.
I also got a 40l black holdall bag, which is just a black hole that swallows everything I have to take somewhere. Also waterproof. Can highly recommend.

Is there such a thing as a waterproof bag that has the frame/mesh to lift it off your back? Most/all waterproof things I see look like they'd give you a hugely sweaty back.

T-Level inifinity does. Though falls down in other respects (in my opinion).
-
• #317
I'm constantly searching for this.
So far, the T-Level Infinity is the only thing decent I can find and you can't seem to get it in the UK anymore. I also agree that it falls down in other respects.
I also found this, but I'm not so keen on it:
http://www.boreasgear.com/products/bootlegger-eclipse-black
It's three different backpacks, with the frame/mesh harness swapping over to each of them. Only one of them is waterproof - the dry bag.

I'm looking to try using a backpack again. My sticky-outty collarbone seems better with them now. I have a big PAC bag at the moment. Should I get one of these Ortliebs or am I going to hate it?
What other bags should I look at?
Is this the Lomo mentioned above?

Anxiously awaiting custom bigxtop gearsack here after a decade of commuting with a Chrome Metropolis messenger.
Thought about the Lomo drybag line, as I have the 60L holdall, but I need some extra pockets for random bits I carry around. -

Not sure if it's big enough <25L?

Cheaper here https://www.scotbycycles.co.uk/ortlieb-m97 ... and with a further £5 off until Thursday night with code 5OFF60. I bought a different Ortlieb bag from them a month or two ago and can recommend the shop.

Have got the Velocity in use since... 2 years now? Works fine. Pretty indestructible.

Ortlieb Messenger too big? If not, do you like yellow? I've got one that spent a week in Barcelona then sat unused for over a year...
I sweat profusely but my Ortlieb Messenger is showing no signs of stink.
Think it's because the bits that contact your back aren't absorbant so there's nowt to absorb the stank.
