I would also like this

following remembers all your subscribed threads but will only update as from now when the threads get updates. It isn't pre-populated with un-updated but subscribed.

Following shows all updates that are relevant to your interests.

Namely:

1. Update to a subscribed item
   
2. When someone mentions you @andytk
   
3. When someone replies to you (like I am doing here)
   
4. When you get a private message
   
   

And so on.

It's a fuller picture than just "subscribed"... it's "stuff relevant to your interests".

And search for following:true type:conversation to see all conversation subscriptions.
