Ladies hybrid

My girlfriend's thinking of getting into cycling and looking for a hybrid - around the £400-500 mark. A bit of riding in London and longer rides in the country.

I'd normally suggest something like a Specialized Sirrus but I have no idea how much men's bikes differ from women's.

I assume the saddles are different but other than that is it a different paint job or is the geometry significantly different?

Finally, any suggestions for bikes to look at? I suggested hanging on for a few months to get a cheap 2014 model but she wants it for the summer.

I'm similarly looking for a new ride for my wife but want something with discs that will take a rack.

I can only find the above with suspension forks which she doesn't need.

Any ideas?
