  • treat them like south africa of the 70's and 80's
boycott israeli produce, is a good way to start i suppose it eventually worked there, but governments were onside

admittedly they receive gazillions from america so it won't do much

Which governments were on side in the case of South Africa? Not the UK or the US.

  • See points 5,6,7 in this post

My question however is this: why don't Hamas stop firing rockets? They're achieving nothing and provide the Israeli regime with an excuse to fuck Palestine over completely. If it was seen to be the one-sided aggressive occupation that it clearly is, surely Israel's allies would be forced to hold them accountable to some extent.

I'm guessing it's because Palestinians are getting killed, displaced and abused all the time, not just during these flare-ups; but the international community only notices when things hot up a bit. But generally, it does seem pretty futile.

    my bad wording sorry
i meant the governments were also backing the boycotts, unlike israel where few governments will stand up and oppose them or their actions

  • Thatcher opposed boycotts or sanctions against apartheid SA.

  • EddyZ seems to be managing to demionise muslims or arabs based on the madnesses of a few.

I demonize neither Arabs nor Muslims. I do, however, demonize barbarians and genocidal extrememists. HAMAS, Boko Haram, Hezbollah, Islamic State, etc. I demonize just like NLFT, Lord's Resistance Army, KKK, NSU, Abhinav Bharat etc. and guys like Breivik, Timothy McVeigh, David Copeland, Jack Teitel,...

  • rolf harris ?

  • Need a massive electromagnet run over the whole fucking mess or a plague of nanobots that consume explosive/ammunition released across the globe.

  • isn't this when the aliens come down and tell us we've done a terrible job running the planet and, to put it in alan sugar speak, " we're fired "

  • We'll kill ourselves before they need to intervene.

  • Syria

  • This.

It's fucking obviously terrorism, land theft and slum clearance. Fucking wake up. They want the Gaza Strip for themselves. They are clearly not merely defending themselves. The futile rocket attacks give them exactly the excuse they need to unleash their ultimate objective.

    Slippery cunts.

If they were genuinely interested in defending themselves, they wouldn't be committing atrocities that will only make the rest of the Middle East hate them even more than they already do. Total hogwash.

I agree that Hamas might as well stop the rockets for all they achieve. But all the stopping would achieve is make the case against Israel's aggression even more clear cut in the eyes of future historians and less ammunition for fake historians to use to muddy the issue. I don't believe the removal of this token opposition would make any difference to israel's allies here and now.

  • Fermi paradox - the great filter.

  • genocidal extrememists.

Does 1000 deaths in 19 days count?

  • ^ This.
EdwardZ, what would change your mind? You seem particularly entrenched in your opinions and reluctant to directly engage with any at the points made against yours.

  • EdwardZ is a troll. He copy pastes long bits of text which sound meaningful, but are really just filler, and largely irrelevant to the discussion. He doesn't join in debate, or provide any sources for his "facts". Ignore him.

  • ebola is trending on twatterz. we're all gonna die horribly lol!

  • The only cure is to do a frog.

It worked for that monkey in that video anyway...

  • I have a frog put aside here for just such an occasion.

Memes that are killing you and your people thread >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

  • Seems to me that the broad Israeli attitude is that Palestinians are a sub species and their demise is sport....

Is it time to discuss this? Let's for argument's sake say that the Isreali government are acting within their right to defend themselves and that the invasion does follow the Geneva convention. But what percentage of the IDF fighters are actively racist and support land grabbing ideologies? And does the top level have any control over what they do?

Think back to when Assad used chemical weapons and a NATO attack was considered. For me personally that was not a clear cut issue, maybe a few missiles in Assad's general direction could have been justified.
But imagine that we did decide to attack, but that a large proportion of the soldiers we sent there were active EDL members and the like, who were happy to kill any muslim regardless of age etc. And then let's imagine that another big proportion of the forces would be some sort of extreme Daily Mail reader who longed for a rebirth of the Great British Empire and were perfectly open to keep any Syrian land taken and start building settlements there under the British Crown.

tl:dr - I suspect that the Israeli government have little control over the rogue elements in its own forces, but are too PR concious to admit so.

  • Does 1000 deaths in 19 days count?

Wars are ugly and not terribly healthy events. Sometimes, however, they are inevitable and more often than not trying hard to prevent the inevitable often results in more bloodshed. If, for example, the US was not isolationist with its "America First" and Neville Chamberlain was not so concerned with "peace in our time" how many 10s or millions of lives would have been spared? How many people died in India as a result of Ghandi's confused position on WW-II? Keeping to Ghandi.. How many died as a result of his confused position on partition, especially after Pakistan invaded Kashmir? Going to the other extreme: Was the British bombing of Dresden a war crime or was it, at the time, justified and, prehaps, even life saving...?
In the Egyptian counter-revolution 1000s of Muslim Brotherhood activists have died. Looking at the lessions learned from the Algerian civil war, the draconian show of force in Egypt seems to be working to save lives.. Its my hope that the current operation results in a demilitarized Gaza and ultimately saves lives. Enough is enough. That is why Egypt, Jordan and much of the Middle East is less than pro-Gaza in this conflict.
What, however, irks me is is that behind the conflict and all the calls against Israel are backers of HAMAS such as Iran, Qatar and Turkey feeding even more bloody battlefields-- over 2000+ civilians died in Syria in the same period. .And what has the horribly civilized and peaceful West done? US announced that it's gonna sell Qatar $11bn worth of arms... and remained pretty darn quiet on Iran's quest for nuclear weapons...
