The bottom of the poster says "Road Safety GB North East". Thank fuck things are a bit more sensible in the rest of the country.

That's just the standard 'Road Safety' brigade. This stuff has been around for decades, it's nothing new. It has been largely overcome for a few years and this way of thinking has had little power, although helmet propaganda has caused a lot more people to wear helmets, so it hasn't gone away completely. As these things are always cyclical, perhaps they're trying to regain more influence on the messaging again.

Is it just me with the Vauxhall gyratory plans (apart from the fact that they don't look that great), but the section underneath the bridge at which the last poor sod was killed, isn't on that plan (as I understand it, its near the Bondway depot, to the west of the station, underneath or close to where the rail lines cross).

I assume that we've all seen the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile) Action For Road Safety campaign?
http://www.fia.com/campaigns/fia-action-road-safety
I really like Rule No. 9
Which a number of tame racing drivers are keen to promote...
I think that we should make these demands for Car Helmets far more widely known...
It's not like the government can say that they've not heard the message...
Lord March and Baron Rooker are presented with official FIA AfRS helmets by FIA President Jean Todt and International Road Safety Ambassador Michelle Yeoh as part of the FIA's Sports Conference Week held at the Goodwood Estate, England. — with Lord March, Michelle Yeoh, Jean Todt and Baron Rooker at Goodwood House.

Despite the report being broadly welcomed by safety campaigners, Hugh Bladon, a founder of the Alliance of British Drivers, told The Independent: “Quite simply 20mph speed limits will increase the number of accidents.
"It’s a nonsensical policy as police cannot enforce it and you would need a million cameras if you want people to drive at 20mph, which nobody does. What you need is to get a grip on cyclist wearing things in their ears, ignoring the road behind them and listening to what they call music.”

He is completely right that nobody drive at 20mph, as they're all stuck in traffic jam.

ignoring the road behind them
really outlines the fact that this guy's problem is people on bikes in front of him, presumably because he's stuck in traffic, as you say.But it's true that I've never heard a cyclist listening to God's Own Music: Micharl Bolton.

I've just been invited to the "National Funeral For The Unknown Victim Of Traffic Violence". I don't like the look of it.

Sorry if this event has been discussed before, couldn't find any mention.

meanwhile the DfT is angling to increase the speed limit of HGVs on single carriage roads from 40mph to... something faster, not quite sure what yet. The reasoning being some horseshit about 'people speeding up to overtake slow lorries thereby creating danger' and 'most HGVs break the speed limit anyway so, why the fuck not, lol!'
by that logic anyone on a bike should be able to rlj because hey - they all do it, right?

As I pointed out on the other thread. This ^ is for single-carriageways outside built up areas (in built up areas all vehicles are limited to 30mph or lower by signage). So it (single-carriageways) is where cars can currently do 60mph.
The limit being discussed is the speed limit in the absence of any other road signs (or things that make it a built-up area); it's the white "National Speed Limit" sign with a black diagonal stripe on it.
Currently HGVs are limited to 40mph, most other "big" vehicles (buses, coaches, Luton Vans) are limited to 50mph, and cars and smaller motorhomes can do 60mph.

i've noticed recently a lot of glass being left down the middle of the street by what i can only assume is dustbin lorries
i know one is not supposed to put glass in the recycling but take them to your local bottle bank, however it seems a lot of people aren't doing that and as the glass gets crushed it seems to drop out of the bottom of the bin wagon somewhere
i don't know if it is only newham but there's a lot of p*ncture potential
not a major campaign but something that could be addressesd -

Recycling varies by borough.
Here in enlightened Wandsworth they realised that getting people to separate plastics from cardboard from cans/tins from glass from etc will mean fewer people bother and less recycling. So here we just stick all recycling in one bag and it's sorted first by machine and the remains by hand.
The binmen do throw the bags about a bit, about once a month I have to sweep up some broken glass near the front of my house after the binmen have been.

Here is the cycling bit of LB Hackney's Draft Transport Strategy:
Consultation closes in October.
wtf has using a cycle lane got to do with safety? ride in single file? get to fuck. who is responsible for this tripe?
