  • Is that a serious question?

If it is, you haven't understood the point of the LFGSS classifieds.
They're not set up in order for people to make money and have a second income! They exist so a community can buy, sell and trade in items specific to our shared interests.

Many sales here are made in order to raise funds for worthy causes, it's good manners to donate to the every day running costs of the forum which you're using too because there of course is no staff and no ad based revenue either.

I didn't mention anything about donating or that i was against it so not sure why this came up?

There are people who hand make things, have successful small businesses and do make a nominal profit from their wares but this is encouraged because we'd all like to see bespoke and boutique products made by forum users... Forum users with a yellow star next to their username.

Again, interesting but how is this relevant?

If 'the market' were to fluctuate, we'd all know about it and we'd all be willing to pay what things are worth but I think you'll find if you held an item for several years until it's value had, in your opinion increased enough to warrant a sale at profit, you'd get called out. Some smart-arse will likely chime in with "This is overpriced. These were selling for less a while ago. Etc".

Noone is saying to "hold an item for several years" - but if i buy a used antique item (such as a campagnolo scirocco front wheel) from this site, and then 6 years down the track (after having used it), i want to sell it - naturally it is even rarer than what it was 6 years before hand. I'm not saying the price is to double, but certain items will undoubtedly go up in price, regardless of whether that was the intention of the buyer or not..what's the point of selling it at less than the market value, just because you bought it cheaper 6 years before? Do you see where i'm getting at..i completely agree with the community feel, but if the value of my hypothetical scirocco front wheel goes up, i will sell it for what it is worth - which is normal in my opinion. Just as selling it for 1/10th of the price is, if they suddenly come back into production and there are thousands of new ones being sold on shelves.

If you want to make a profit or gamble on the investments you've made, go to ebay.

    Again, completely missed the point.
