It may well do...when I'm back from holibobs

I've done zero (0) miles on the turbo this year - it's very definitely made a difference to (lack of) top end (for over 5 seconds).

What do people recommend for turbo'ing with a cross bike? I plan on getting rid of my road bike to fund a shiny new cross bike as I don't see the point in having both any more. I've got an old Tacx magnetic turbo that a mate found in a skip but it's always been pretty terrible so I'll likely pass that on to someone else for free so my turbo options are wide open.
I like the idea of the LeMond trainer though hear it's very noisy.

What sort of budget?

• #1731
The lemond falls under the budget but I'd rather not spend any more than £500 so the wahoo kickr and a few others are out.
Edit: just discovered the cycleops silencer at £350. Looks like it might fit the bill. Any reviews?

Just been reading one on slowtwitch- positive. Where have you found one for £350?

Why would you need a special turbo for a cross bike ? (Serious question)
The idea of a silent turbo is appealing but its not a specific CX training requirement.

The ones which replace the rear wheel mean you don't need a turbo specific tyre/wheel/cassette - I am guessing. If your wheel set has tubs then putting a trainer tyre on is a no-go, also.
The large fly-wheel is appealing.

The article with the SRM file (graphic) for one of the pro cyclocx'er gives some pointers of what kind of effort is needed in cyclocx.

Issue would be for those people with ether Campag or the more recent Shimano group sets that the supplied cassette is useless.
My cross bike is 10 speed, so it's work for that application, but the other bikes are 11. That said, the cross bike gets used the least of any bike (bar the race bike I suppose, due to the amount of racing I do!), so might be most suited to living on the turbo.

Not enough tape / rimstrip by the sounds of things
Can you ever have too much tape? I've a pair of wheels with, I think, four layers of tape on, which worked fine with a pair of Vittoria XN last week, but the tyres were leaking so I decided to buy a new pair. I've just tried the new ones on the same wheels and can't get them to go up at all.
Is more rim strip the next step?

Leaking? You use sealant, right?
I find without sealant they deflate in less than an hour. After the first sealing, but unridden, they still leak flat in less than ten hours or so. It's only after a good ride do they really seal nicely.
Too much tape? Not really - you need more when the tyre isn't tight on the tape when it's in the centre channel.

I've not put sealant in yet. Was trying to get them up first, before adding sealant.
Will do another layer of tape tomorrow.

Ah, makes sense. Thanks. I hadn't caught on that it replaced the rear wheel entirely. It's a nice concept.

Can someone remind me ahead of this Thursday's summer league race:
Can I turn up and register to race on the day, and buy a day licence?
Thanks.
-
• #1746
^I'm pretty sure it's yes and yes, but just checking.
-
• #1747
It's a Go-Race, so you just need to pay the entry (no licence required).
-
• #1748
Gotcha. Cheers Andy.

Here's hoping for better weather. Was annoying last season to catch the bug and then have no races.
