Anidel: I think I will stick to the Dura-Ace hubs I already have for now! They're nice, if a little tatty... (and I'm poor at the moment!)

No problem :) as said I'll then keep them as spares in case of need !
Lovely job you did there! Surely it'll ride nice :)

And now back to square one. Well, not quite, but there are now huge gouges and scratches in the down tube after I purchased a Velo Orange brand bottle cage and clamps. Which do not actually fit together, it transpires. Looks like it's part-strip and repaint.

oh no :(

Scratch that. It turns out that I can get a touch-up stick of the same colour. Annoying and messy still, but less of a job than I anticipated.

Touch-up stick successful. Barely noticeable now, although not perfect
Finished!
Now all I have to do is go out and ride it a lot!
As for summer-long, this got finished far more quickly than I had anticipated. Not to worry, I can start on my tandem now!
Oh, and the brake problem was resolved quite easily in the end- I swapped the rear brake for the one on my tourer, which was far longer than it needed. Success. Both bikes brake better now!
