  • New bar/stem -

    New cranks -

  • Finally got some proper snaps!

Can the derailleur handle that cassette size?

  • mini project. old dawes, new bars, stem, brakes, seat. bit of a cleanup. few more bits to do but already love it.

  • Lovely klunker - I would remove the pizzaprotector on the rear, but that's all.

  • that's definitely on the list!

  • does anyone know what seat post it'll need? It's a spiral conic

    26.8?

  • New bar/stem -

    what bars are they...noodle?

  • Look like it, had the same one on my audax bike, real comfty.

  • Can the derailleur handle that cassette size?

Nope! One of many things learned on this build.

  • The bar isn't actually marked but it looks to me most like a 3TTT Grand Prix.

  • Nope! One of many things learned on this build.

It look pretty big, what the big sprocket size?

  • 34 tooth.

    B-)

    Whoops!

  • ^ That's bigger than CX cassettes!

On another note, does anyone know of any stems that come in 115mm, or that are supposed to be 110/120mm but actually measure closer to 115mm, in 7-10deg and under 175g?!

I have the Deda EL 115mm and it fits a charm, but is rather overweight, as is the Easton EA50, which is the only other 115mm stem I know of.

  • Tune?

  • Pro vibe carbon sprint Cavendish

  • under 175g?

    Pro vibe carbon sprint Cavendish

    Nope.

  • Tune?

They don't do any in 115mm, unless you know they come up short/long?

    Pro vibe carbon sprint Cavendish

Think those were in 105mm 120mm and 135mm.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's old school MTB since more modern Shimano two-pin freewheel pullers are slightly too wide. It said Shimano 600, so I was like "sure!" First road build down, and now I know at least a little more about gearing.

  • Pretty common as touring freewheels back in the day too, 14-34 as a 5 or 6 speed.

  • 34! fucking hell.

    A common gearing would be a 14-28t (5/6 speed).

  • Can the derailleur handle that cassette size?

Old non-slant parallelogram GS rear dérailleurs could, i.e. up to RD-6207-GS, although as always it was dependent on the hanger geometry.

  • much much potential.
post, saddle, levers, bar angle, outer cables, drivetrain, shifting away from porn.

    Finally got some proper snaps!

Agreed, 14-28 was more common as it worked with a short cage RD.

I never saw wide adoption of either Shimano MegaRange or Suntour's even more mental AG (14-38 5-speed!) wide ratio freewheels.

  • Touring bikes usually came with long cage derailleurs though.

  • Well, they tend to when they also come with triple chainrings. Depends which era you're talking about.
