Sometimes this forum feels like a fun, funny and welcoming place for women, and I don't even notice which part of it I'm looking at, but I'm not alone in noticing how much that has changed recently.
I'm not whiter than white, by any means, nor am I humourless but this forum is currently so drenched in testosterone and arrogance, and so riddled with single entendre, crass/graphic references to sex, and female genitalia, it makes me want to log off for good. Maybe I should nerg or report people but I don't have any confidence that it would achieve anything. If anything, I am worried it would backfire as it has before.
I accept there's no point moaning about the use of the word cunt. After all, no one owns words, and sometimes the banter is genuinely hilarious and brilliant. Of course, harmless long-running 'in-jokes' are intrinsic to internet forums. So as much as possible, I go with the flow or just turn a blind eye.
However, it's one thing to use the C word and crack jokes like naughty school boys but imho it's quite another to imply or explicitly and repeatedly describe sexual acts (I can't help asking "latent sexual frustration and/or insecurity, much?")
I find it particularly insensitive given how many people have experienced some form of sexual assault (I'm not even going to start saying what I think of all the 'pedo' comments).
Anyway, agree or disagree, I don't even mind - it's just getting really, REALLY tedious reading the almost exactly the same posts by the same few members who could be setting a far better example to younger forumers, instead of being infinitely amused by their own repetitious and base attempts at humour.
