• Hi all

I don't suppose if anyone has one of those now unavailable 24 spline, c. 30mm across freewheel remover tools that I could borrow for a few minutes? From google, it looks like it's a Maillard type.

It's for a stock freewheel that came with c. 1971 Carlton, just need to pop the thing off, but it's pretty hard to find the tool.

I'm sure I could russle up a beer or two, or forum donation if that helps...

    Cheers.

  • If you don't want / need to save the freewheel, take off the bearing collar ring allowing '101 bits' to fall out and dismantling of the freewheel.

Then molegrips plus heat / penetrant on the remainder which has been on the hub for 40 years.
All a bit brutal but it works.

  • Ive got one in north london.

  • Thanks for the advice, I might have a go at saving it, nice to keep original parts when you can (plus it looks like it's hardly been ridden).

PM incoming to mrgrumby... Thanks all!

  • just as a point of reference in case it crops up in the future, these freewheels dont have the collar ring so you cant remove them the destructive way, that and the lack of tool makes them an utter bastard to get off.

theres a shop in Brighton called freedom bikes who have the tool and will get it off while you wait for £5, should you be in that part of the world

  • I have one in SE5 also

  • Many, many thanks MrGumby! You saved the day and it was an absolute pleasure to meet you. Will be in touch.

Thanks also to dogtemple for the info and stevo for the kind offer. All sorted now!! Cheers again all.

  • sorry for the dredge. I also need to borrow one of these / buy one if anyone can point me in the right direction!

I think it's the same 24 spline tool I need, but not entirely sure.

i understand a park tool FR-4 might do the trick, but I'm not 100% certain. any help much appreciated.
