  • stevo - your usual dentist might have an out-of-hours number you can call if you ring them up. You'll get their answerphone but the details should be in the message.

If it really hurts by now and painkillers don't help then you can go to actual A&E and ask them if they can do something to tide you over until tomorrow (this will likely be bigger and better painkillers).

Bad luck - one of my molars cracked around a shonky filling a couple of years ago while I was chowing down on a bag of Wiggle Haribo, of all things. I was able to use DIY tooth cement from Boots to plug the gap until I saw an actual dentist to remove the shattered molar a week or two later, but I don't think that'd help in your case as it's the pressure from the weird position of the shard that's causing the problem. Is it loose? If it's loose then I'd be tempted to try to wiggle it out, but IANAD and should not be listened to under any circumstance on dental matters.

Cheers, I called my dentist and his ooh message just said call back when we're open or leave a message. Will call tomorrow morning.

The shard is very loose but doesn't seem to want to come out, probably because it goes around the filing and I can't get a good enough grip on it.

Its not that painful just won't be able to eat until it's fixed, which might not be such a bad thing.
