Awesome, always great to have another Norwich cyclist join up

Welcome back! I know the Dandy Horse have a steel ride once a week, it's also a great plar to hang out and talk bikes (pretty sure dandy is what's lead most of us to meeting in person?). The staff are great, in fact we have Jack on here and I'm an ex member of staff myself. This is probably the best place to chat online as I don't think there's another online avenue purely for Norwich. There's also the Norwich cycling swap/sell Facebook page (That's probably not what it's actually called, I'll look it up in a bit). There's usually some great deals on there and a larger audience to sell to. Show us your wares first though!

Thanks for the replies. I learnt of Dandy Horses existence 2 days ago, looks like a great addition to the city. What day/time is their ride? Might be able to squeeze a ride in before I disappear to Europe.
By wares I assume you mean the stuff I'll be getting rid of? But I'll take it as an excuse to post a couple of the bikes I'll be bringing back.

Every Sunday? Or is it every second Sunday. I'm not sure now, JakJak and Thross78 will know! And that's exactly what I meant, I'm in love with that Roberts

Can also vouch for the Dandy and 'on here' as being the best places for Norwich's 'alternative' cycling. There are a number of clubs who have associations with the more retail/roadie shops in town, but jakjak certainly strikes the right balance between fun and performance with the Dandy monthly rides, so I'd recommend coming along to those for sure.
Also, if you ever get rid of one of those sets of Shamals...dibs.

You back Alex?

Not just yet, in Oxford at Fiona's parents' house until Saturday.
You free Sunday? I'll be heading down to the Dandy late afternoon time for the last stage of the Tour/the steel ride - could grab coffee beforehand?
-
• #12
Not free I'm afraid! I'll text you

This isn't supposed to be rude but is there actually much going on in terms of 'alternative' cycling in Norwich? If this section is one of the best places, well it's not exactly busy is it?
I think I've been spoilt here in Brisbane. Been packing boxes all day and the house looks no different. Half tempted to just burn the lot instead!
I look forward to meeting some of you shortly.
One question about Dandy Horse, do they have a good place to lock up? Admittedly I haven't been down Magdalen Street for a couple of years, but its not somewhere I'd like to leave a decent bike for more than a few minutes!

^ Norwich doesn't really have as much activity as I'd like going on to be honest...it can be pretty hard work to get a ride organised I've found, or maybe I'm just not free often enough?!
The Dandy Horse have no issues with me taking my bike inside whilst I'm there so I never have the issue of leaving it outside...well, they've never said anything to the contrary anyway!
-
• #15
Ha, having said all this I'll probably end up being the flakiest of the lot!
Anyone on instagram? I'm invertedcriss if anyone fancies seeing how I've been avoiding packing stuff.

Haha ^^^ you've hit the nail on the head really, it's pretty quiet and takes a long time to organise anything. I myself have never been on a ride with people on here and I'm sure I'm not the only one unfortunately, maybe you can turn it all around!?
As Huddo has said, you can bring your bike in to dandy, they have bike racks in their walled in courtyard so unless anyone wants to do a Tom Cruise and drop in from the sky you should be fine. Oh and followed on Instagram

I'd love to organise a chilled ride in the countryside, pub lunch etc. Mainly to get my better half back on a bike (meeting some people would be an added bonus). We lived in York before moving to Aus and she rode all the time. Here they properly hate cyclists and because of the climate the sweat is pouring after a couple of minutes. Suffice to say she has barely touched a bike whilst here.

Just followed on i'gram also - did you sell the Cinelli or is it coming to the UK?
^ that's the kind of ride I'm into!

There does seem to be an endemic flakiness in Norwich, but I think regularity is the problem. Rides are often 'organised' a few days in advance, and have details changed close to the day, so you never get a good idea of what's happening or when.
On the other hand, Jack's rides from the Dandy aren't spectacularly popular yet, but they're consistent in that they're always an evening on the last weekend of the month (I think) and so would make sense as a base for any fixed/non-club rides on here I feel. Jack and I choose to ride in lycra, because it's fun, but there's no onus to comply to that rule, and it's certainly not a race, and the routes could easily be adapted to accommodate pub stops and a more leisurely pace.
I'm waxing lyrical because I basically just want more people to turn up this Sunday, as it's the first ride I'll have been out on in a fortnight!
EDIT - The Dandy Ride sets off from the shop at 17.00 this Sunday, but if you turn up at 16.00, you'll get the added bonus of seeing Kittel crush the Champs Elysees.

Followed back. Cinelli sold I'm afraid, will probably regret that one. I'm bringing about 6 bikes and a couple of frames back so might have to have a cull of other stuff not long after I arrive. I presume you're tall also?

Thross - definitely not looking to usurp the Dandy ride. Sounds right up my alley and will definitely be along to meet some people and support it. So if there is one this Sunday then the next one will be towards the end of August right? I'll be camper vanning in Europe by then. I think realistically October will be the first one I'll be able to make, my container is due to appear mid-October but I do have a bike stashed at my parents place.
I guess what I'm hoping for is a phone full of numbers I can spam to find someone to ride with, a bit like what I have here. The cruisy ride I mentioned previously I might organise with some old friends etc. and then throw it open.

Also, I am really looking forward to evening rides. It gets dark here between 5 and 6pm all year round.

Aha, I wasn't suggesting an lfgss coup, I was just reiterating that the Dandy rides are open to everyone so it'd be good if more people on here who wanted to go for rides came along. Hopefully October will still be relatively rideable, although our nice bright evenings may have all but disappeared by then!
And I'll certainly give you my number when you're back on these shores for impromptu rides, in fact, no point waiting, let's start a list...

Good stuff, I'll post my number when I actually have a UK number again!
After 4.5 years in Australia and a few places in the UK in between, I am moving back to Norfolk. Really looking forward to it, just got a camper van tour of Europe to get out of the way first (its a tough life in between jobs).
Fixed, road, whatever, just like riding my bike(s). Is there much going on? Are there any other forums/groups I should be checking out? I'll probably have some gear to shift once my container arrives as I don't have time to sell some things before I move.
Looking forward to getting stuck in / involved.
