@FFF yea the a-c is what I'm worried about, good to know you've tried and CX forks not the way to go. I've been in touch with a framebuilder here (I've moved to NZ) who might be able to build one with the right dims, without breaking the bank.
I could take the opportunity to have some braze-ons added to the frame too, to give it the rack and fender mounts it should always have had (imho). Anyway, he's quoting, so I'll see how it comes back...
