pedal advice

Im wanting to switch from straps to a road pedal with cleats.
I ride fixed and was wondering whats the best type for skid stopping.
some advice one shoes would be great also

What's your budget?

I have mtb spds and would pick them every time. You can walk more easily in them and the pedals are double sided which makes clipping in easier at times. Some of the shoes look more like hiking shoes and some are more like the road shoes but generally you want something comfortable but a little tighter than most have trainers and stiffer soles are better but some of the cheap shoes have exactly the same soles as ones twice the price so shimano MT33 MT34 MT44 MT42 MT53 all have the same soles but different uppers with more/less straps and things, my ones just have laces and I found them fine even on long rides like on the DD(120miles) I think I did the laces again once at the half way just to be on the safe side. Another plus is the shoe side part is metal so should last longer. More expensive pedals will have easier to service bearings and be lighter but if you aren't servicing them yourself then it's cheaper to replace them than have a shop look at them.

My current shoes and pedals are these but I got them for £15 and £33. I got some of the other pedals without the outer around the cleat(m520s) but I found when I was newer to clipping in I missed the cleat more often, I wouldn't advise riding on them without spd shoes as the cleat part could easily mash up a regular shoe sole.

Super tight budget and not sure it will work for you then you should be able to pick up a pair of cheap spd pedals 2nd hand(£5 for some rust spec m520s is common) and then £20-30 for cheap shoes(aldi, decathlon, whatever).

I use both mountain and road on mine. But for the sake convenience, MTB pedals. Get a strong pair of shoes if you can. I have holes where my big toe is located because of the stress involved when peddling.

these are female but go up to an 8, look alright to me

Riding fixed you'll only get laces trapped in the chainring once, you won't want it to happen twice.

Plenty of solutions: shoes with just Velcro (eg. Spesh Comp/Sport), shoes lock laces, shoes with Velcro straps to cover the laces, etc.

I use SPDs on all bikes (fixed and geared) and a mixture of shoes:-

• Spesh Pro MTB for long distance (fixed and gears)
  
• Spesh Comp (or a Sport, whichever is cheaper) MTB for commuting on fixed
  
• Adidas SPD something for geared commuting
  

P.s. Double sided every day.
