Absolutely! I have one good watch for instance and I'd quite like another, something more rugged (a 'tool' watch, LOL). But I'd never want numerous good watches as I wouldn;t be able to appreciate them all and no individual one would get the wear it deserved. I s'pose.
Swatch stands for "Second Watch". So you have your nice watch, then you have your swatch as a beater.

Nah I just like to reflect on things. People always feel I ought to have more of a point.
I was following Hodinkee on Instagram and had to unfollow, after relentless pictures of extraordinarily expensive 'timepieces' (always 'timepieces', never just watches) with legions of would-be flaneurs commenting with things like "a delightful piece of art" and "fine choice sir". All admiring the timelessness of a certain design, even though it would have been deeply unfashionable to most only a few years ago.
BTW there's no one here that irritates me, not that anyone needs my moronic opinion anyway. Here there are just normal insatiable enthusiasts. It's the moneyed acquirer of ostentatious shit that I find nauseating, coupled with being so awfully tasteful while in actuality being impressionable and nerdy.
I <3 when SP "engages temporary contrary mode"
funny the comment section that really get under my skin are those on the Sart website. I don't know why by they just do!
"Oooh! Perfection"
"Super chic!"
"I wish I could get my husband to dress like this!

I'm with SP on this one. My Seiko pilot watch cost me around £150, I think the retail when new was around £500. I'd be happy to pay that or similar for a Citizen equivalent but I don't think I could bring myself to spent more. Sure I'd love a Navitimer, but there's no way in hell I'd pay the usual asking price for one.
Similar story with my bikes really, all have been around the £200 mark aside from my nice (in my opinion, contrary to many others'!) MTB which cost just under £1000. I'm guessing SP like myself doesn't have the desire to spend much more than necessary for a small (or non-existent) increase in functionality. While I can appreciate people are willing to spend more for aesthetics, personally I don't find that applies to tools such as watches or bikes.
That's a personal thing and I can understand why people have differing views. Diverse opinions on the subject lead to a diverse market which is a good thing. I don't think there's much cause to start calling each other names over it though.
Cunts.

If you want engine theme, this is the only sensible choice.
Though this is fucking shit.

Get with with Ed. Since I have lived in Deptford I have lived in Streatham, Barnes and now Borough.
The time bracelets were a little too shiny in Deptford if you know what I mean.

Personally I can't stand "themed" watches. In fact the only thing that would stop me buying this:
Is the Red Arrows branding.
Well that and if I went back home with an RAF watch I'd be shot before I got off the plane...
Also, I fucking can't stand it when there isn't a single straight on photo of a watch with a slide rule. Is it simply parallax or is it a fucking shit slide rule. Something that I've been caught out by in the past.

cough Ferrari cough
I'm going to have a couple of hours free in Geneva on Sunday, any recommendations of anywhere to go? If anywhere is open on a Sunday.
-
• #13437
I'd sooner have my testes in a vice than have a Ferrari watch! However I have just found this and added it to my wish list.
After coming on this thread to talk about my stance on not spending more than necessary on watches. Balls.
P.S. American spelling of litre on a Japanese watch? WTF?
P.P.S. Same with my Seiko, well that's shit.

• #13438
Fucking mess that... Sorry. The only thing cool there is that it's an eco drive.
-
• #13439
Aren't Citizen meant to be the biggest (in terms of units produced) watch manufacturer in the world?
-
• #13440
Or indeed if you're sensible you'll own neither and just look at the clock on your mobile.
-
• #13441
I really want to like Eco drives cos a radio controlled watch that never needs a battery would be ace, but the ones with all the features do look a little, well, busy.
On the subject of watch douchery, I have been wearing my Speedmaster Pro almost every day for the last 7 years.
Why not? It's a good watch. -

RE: Themed watches - totally agree - rubbish.
There's this Citizen Tough watch that I want as my everyday do everything watch as it has all the features: eco-drive, 300m WR, simple design and sapphire glass and Ti case and not expensive but it has ROYAL MARINES plastered on the face. I have no issue with the armed forces but I also am not a marine or tough guy of any kind! Boo.

• #13443
i like that ... but for the RM bit as well.
-
• #13444
So on this subject and douchery of it.
Weve seen everyones good watches. The ones we love. the douche watch..
So what about on the other side? What is the worst watch you own? Not your 'beater', not your dress, not your shirt or your shiney. What is the watch that you still own but never wear because it was a mistake and embarrassing.
-
• #13445
I don't own one...
-
• #13446
Oh I've got a couple of those...
There's one of these: (actually this belongs to bobbinbird but it is really pointless.
Then there's one of these worthless piles of crap from an ad in a sunday supplement. She and I got his and hers ones.
To be fair I knew it was crap but I wanted a curved watch and it was cheap. And I have a Storm somewhere too.
-
• #13447
I have a few too but i think my bottom of the pond is a drunken ebay buy...

Or indeed if you're sensible you'll own neither and just look at the clock on your mobile.
