  • Finally getting there after owning this frame for a year and a half.

PARTS mix of NOS and used:

40h and 36h rims on the way (the most difficult thing to source). Straps on the way. Lockring on the way. Rear cog and nuts on the way. Just need to clean and polish the used parts.

Frame will be getting restored once I get the decals sorted. I tried Cyclomondo's and they were awful. Jagged edges all round.

Will post more pictures up as I clean up each bit.

  • Swoon!

  • need a different seatpost

  • Which rims did you go for?

  • need a different seatpost

Tell me about it. I've been looking out for fluted Record seatposts in good condition without scratches for a decent price for quite a while. I've found one but at £115 it's a bit much. Once I find the one I'll swap it out and put this one on my road bike.

    Well spotted though

  • Which rims did you go for?

I was going to get Ghisallo wooden rims as they were Italian and I could get 40 hole versions. But I couldn't do with tubulars for the London roads let alone wood rims in the London rain so I have hunted for 40 hole clinchers that aren't tandems and it took a while. They are the only non Italian thing on this frame and I feel ashamed to be putting them on it. I'm sorry to say Velocity Synergy rims. They look the part though, 23mm wide, NMSW silver polish with eyelets. So once stickers are off it'll be our little secret.

  • Thanks!
I am looking for a pair of nice rims that won't cost a fortune...will check these out.

  • Frame looks fit to me. The DT decals are larger than I've seen on a De Rosa but I love them. ST one looks questionable.

Are you sourcing replacements as these are fakes? Paint also looks good - what's the restoration involve?

  • Thanks!

These are going to cost a fortune as they are getting shipped from the states. Brick Lane Bikes are the UK distributors of Velocity rims but they don't stock these ones as far as I'm aware. If they do they definitely don't stock the 40 hole variety

  • Yeah, noticed. No way :) search will continue

Paint is okay but not great up close. Decals are all totally wrong. Getting track ends, fork crown and fork ends chromed and then getting it all resprayed and 70s decals put on. Just waiting on some decals and then it's off to get a makeover.

The tyre clearance is pretty impressive. Forks aren't attached so here is just the crown clearance.

  • where did you get the 32 & 40h synergy rims please? a not very thorough google has not brought up any in the UK in 40h... Thank you

    Will be awesome btw

  • ah, you are probably getting 27s, I want 700c...

  • I'm getting 700c. Go onto Velocity USA website. That's where they're made now. You can't buy direct from them as their site says they only ship to USA and Canada. You have to email them and they'll send a PayPal invoice. Was $230 including shipping for two. God knows how much I'll get screwed over by HMRC.

Thank you - am I being (particularly) thick? I don't see 40h as an option!

Nope. It's just a bit unclear and contradictory. They only do silver non machined side walls in 40h

    velocity store 40h Synergy

If you're after machined rims in 40h they do Dyad which are 24mm wide

    velocity store Dyad

You won't be able to check out to the UK so email them and they will work out postage and send you an invoice to pay.

    Good luck

  • Was near Brick Lane this morning and popped into BLB on the off chance they had a 70s seatpost. And shit the bed!!! They did.

  • Aren't Velocity good rims? why were you ashamed to use them? (a part from not being Italian :))

  • presumably because they're new, not from the right era.

^^Thanks, I guess I want exactly what they don't have - machined, 700c, 40h/32h synergy... I think the dyad is not the right shape (for my slllllloooooooooowwwwwww developing 1930s-50s 2 speed fixed) which is probably more important. Will have brakes though, I don't know enough about braking on non-machine surfaces, or machining non-machined surfaces....

Ashamed as they're not correct. Like using a shimano bottom bracket for example.

  • They look good though on the De Rosa

  • Rims arrived today. £35 customs charge. Not too bad.

Not sure whether to go classic 3 cross 36 front and 4 cross 40 rear or go radial with the front.

  • 3x.

  • 3x.

Makes sense but radial looks so good. I'll wait until after I get the frame sorted and then decide.

  • Radial never looks good above 20 spokes
