  • nevermind the peleton, this was the highlight of the day for me!

    the lady looking after the owl said she runs a nearby sanctuary for owls and accepts injured owls passed-onto her from the RSPB who she said were without funding to care for owls (or simply saved themselves the expense given the existence of sanctuaries such as hers).

    about Le Tour,

    (OK, so the Tour is basically a massive car-valcade with some bike riders thrown in

    deffo a lot of faff, the convoy including police motorcyclists and police van drivers waving seemed somewhat strange, but why wouldn't you, given such an assignment!

    ps. found a few atmospheric pictures on my phone from yesterday, will post 'em up soon..

    I popped round the Elderfield briefly around 9, but nobody there (no worries).

    sorry Oli!

    Thanks for a lovely time. Route was amazing, good company and great to have room to move (compared to inner London)...can only echo comments about Epping and the security. Rather than turning cycling into a spectator sport, make it more participatory by allowing people onto the roads.

    quite!

    it's almost an event in itself, allowing all of the tax-contributing citizens (i.e. anybody who spends any money ever!) onto the roads following the peleton to enjoy the same luxury that they do... :-)

    a friend and connection on Strava did pretty much that by the way, rode most of le stage from Cambs..

  • Oh, and I had this stuck in my mind pretty much all day:

  • thanks for organising and leading Fox - great sunny ride out and exhilirating ride back in on closed roads. sorry I made everyone wait at the start...

    And I'm sorry I made everyone wait every time there was a hill.
    I really am no good at them. Hence my KoM polkadots of course.

    I did think the ride in was lovely. All that newish bit behind Eton Manor I didn't know was there.

    quite alright, its nice to poodle up hills sometimes, feels part of the #SlowMovement (!) .. and besides wouldn't be able to yomp-up much faster anyways;

  • Been meaning to say: thankyou Fox for organising this, it was a really good day and i enjoyed riding and talking with you all, particularly my companions on the ride back into London.

    Clearly i need to do more riding because halfway back across London i completely ran out of energy and had to sit down in a park for about an hour.
