I've dropped them a line to see if my avatar can be recreated as a head tube badge: I'll keep you posted...
(Just noting this here, as I struggled to find the thread again.)

How large an item can you print? For an e.g. could you print a lugged joint?
-
• #8
Hi Guys,
Sorry I haven't checked back here regularly.
Dammit, there are some people who have printed lugs and then used carbon tubes glued into the sockets. They used a more accurate and expensive process. In theory, now you can print very large objects, almost an entire bike in one go. In the future when I get some funds for R&D I hope to explore things like 3d-printed lugs, hubs, dropouts... etc.

I want a lollipop style garmin Mount. But rotated 90 degrees to take the 910xt. Is that a possibility.
Totally failing to find one online.

I'm seriously tempted to buy the one above. Cut the Mount circle off. Rotate it and glue it back on.

Do you think you could print toe clips?
-
• #12
Hi HHC,
almost certainly. I hadn't thought about it really as 3d-printing currently is most effective with complex parts (or for artistic pieces). But there are probably some really great toe clip ideas that could be thought of that take advantage of 3d printing. Did you have anything in mind? feel free to message me if you wanted to chat about some general ideas etc? Sounds fun!

Giving this thread a bump/hijack.
My old man runs the Fablab in Strathclyde uni and is always telling me I should make use of the stuff there which I really want to do but so far haven't.
Membership is now open to non students so I'm going to join, I figure paying for it will motivate me to use it.
I know nothing about 3d printing (but I do have a basic understanding of 3d design packages and more than a basic understanding of 2d ones) so I'm looking for ideas of things I can print etc. I fancy doing one of those light mounts that go onto rack/mudguard braze ons for a start.
I have no idea what size the 3d printer there is nor the resolution/type etc so will probably need to make a visit and suss that out first.
They have a vinyl cutter I'm pretty sure so might try make some custom decals, maybe for my motorbike more than any of my bicycles though.

Sounds cool, Decals certainly sounds cool.
Is this a stupid idea but 3d printed top tube protectors.
I'm not sure if the plastic can stretch that much but all decent looking ones cost a fortune and all cheap ones look shite. That is unless I've completely missed out a type. -

Maybe could design a 2 piece interlocking type thing? With shims for different tube diameters and inverse shims for the lolz.
-
• #16
Good shout. would you have to use bolts to keep them together?
-
• #17
Dunno. I've ssen some cool interlocking box designs that have been 3d printed so might be able to make it at least clip together or something.

Someone posted a thread with the same idea recently.
Pretty sure it got shot down, but can't remember why: have a quick utfs.

Thread resurrection alert!
I am one of the few who prefers a GPS on the stem and use the adjustable K-Edge mount that fits as a spacer on the steerer. However, it is a little “short”
Is there someone here who can print an extended version or even the round bit with bracket to attach the existing mount part?

• #20
i have a printer if you have the cad
-
• #21
Hmmm, let me see what can be done
-

Im not against doing the cad if its a quick job, dm me a pic, might take like 2 mins idk

I love it that theres a topic even for 3D printing on lfgss.
So a few months ago I bought a gravel frame that was an absolute bargain, however it was completely gutted - missing mech hanger, axles, headset, and all the cable guide grommets were gone.
I have spent countless hours on ebay and aliexpress trying to find the right sizes, and when I did, it was with a 2 month shipping, so thats not really an option.
So I did what any sane person would do, downloaded Fusion360, made a cup of coffee, and fired up some youtube tutorials. This is the end result:
My only problem is that I couldnt find any place that would print without a minimum order of 25£, but I will certainly need to proof my concept before I print out all the 6 pcs I need + some spares. Even my full order would be less than 15£.
Could anyone (perhaps @Biggles567 based on the above?) help me with printing a trial piece? Its about 1.88cm3 in size, and standard PLA or anything basic will definitely do for the prototype. Colour doesnt matter either. I'm happy to compensate in beer/cash :)

i can probably assist, if you arent in a desparate rush.
send me the file via PM

yeah just send me the file, happy to print it, im glad you dont mind about colour because i only have a horrible shiny purple filament at the moment... it looked cool on amazon!
Hey guys,
Just wanted to let you know I have just launched my site offering 3d-printed metal badges and plastic caps and plugs. Checks us out and let me know your thoughts. Still new, many more examples to follow, drawing as fast as I can!
