the canti fork bosses are a bit uneven - about 2mm or so difference in height from one another on the fork legs.
Seriously? That's really poor. Sure you can adjust the pads but there'll be a different force applied from each pad due to the different length of lever. Not massively but it's not the point, I'd send them back. Or atleast give them a call to tell them, and they'll probably tell you to send them back.

Brake bosses on my pomp are uneven side to side. I figured its the price you pay for buying a bargain basement frame. I haven't even really checked if they're level.

They've got those opposing bolts like on Shimano hollowtech - and they must have worked loose. I was riding at the time, and thought the cleat was wobbling - went to unclip, and the whole crank came away, still attached to my shoe. Made stopping interesting!
Once re-tightened they never did that again, so I'm chalking it down to experience, rather than an issue with the cranks.
it's the only way to get properly seized ones off, loosen off the bolts and ride it til the cranks fall off.

I'm sure they could be adjusted so as to work OK, but wondered if there would be any ill affect. I understand it was cheap, especially on sale (not that a sale would affect manufacturing), but yeah, a bit sloppy. I've emailed them, just waiting to hear back. Thanks for responses.

Cheap OTP (from Ridgeback to Specialized) are the same too.

First post from a long time lurker, so please be gentle.
Building up a V4 Pompino at the moment, just trying to sort out cranks and bottom bracket. So far I'm thinking of a Sugino Pista Track crankset which says it need a 103mm bottom bracket. I believe this will give the 42(ish)m chain line that I'm after, but any one any idea if it will fit or put the chain ring too close to the chain stay? -
• #4083
A bit more research tells me that the Sugino Pista isn't a very good chainset... looks like it's going to be an On One one
-
• #4084
This is also dependent on the size of the chainring, on mine at least.

Current state of mine,

Is that a 26" up front?
-
• #4087
It is yeah.
The fork is quite long though so I think the frame sits at about the correct angle.
-
• #4088
Either way, it help with the front load, which is a bonus.

The taller HT, longer ETT, steeper angles and mat finish made me me buy a V4 frameset. Just going to swap the parts off the current build..pics to follow. If anyone in the bay area or US is looking for a white large v2 pomp frame/fork and Ritchey headset let me know..

I have a chainline question.
Does anyone have experience of the chainline produced by a 135mm Pomp with a W Ind freewheel on a Paul word hub? I currently have Middleburn RS7 cranks and a square taper shimano BB of unknown length.

BB of unknown length.
might be the issue.

Try using a ruler, measure the distance between the sprocket teeth and the inside of the dropout, subtract that from 1/2 of 135. Then measure the distance from the chain ring to the Ctr of the downtube. These measurements should be the same, if not remove the bb, measure it,replace the bb with one that corrects your chain line.

Measure your chainring position relative to the seat tube to confirm you're currently at 50mm CL.
What size bottom bracket do I need?
For a standard MTB setup a 113mm axle is needed for ISIS or square taper.
Middleburn cranks run a 50mm chain line for cross country and downhill. -

Cheers for the advice.

First, sorry for the lengthy post.
The heat has finally made me consider a rack and panniers as opposed to my rucksack. I'm looking at two racks from Tortec the Ultralite and the Velocity.
I run 25 mm tyres right now with SKS Chromoplastic guards and will probably change to 28 mm tyres in the winter, so I believe even the slim Velocity rack should be OK.
Does anyone have any experience/advice concerning rear racks on the Pompino? I'm concerned that heel clearance for my size 11 shoes with 165 mm cranks may be an issue. Are there panniers I should avoid for this? I'm considering Ortliebs.
Finally some racks have more horizontal bars than others is this for rigidity or to mount certain styles of pannier?
Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

I've got the Tortec Ultralite on my large Pompino, size 46 shoes, 165mm cranks, cheap Altura pannier, and the heel clearance is absolutely fine if you put the pannier to the back of the rack. The rack itself is great.
Tortec also do a Velocity Hybrid, which is halfway between the Ultralite and the Velocity, which might be good for you? I think the Velocity is so slimline it actually looks a bit weird.

Also rack & panniers >>>>>>>>>>>>> rucksack. No more sweaty back is a liberation.

I knew I'd miss an important bit of info - my Pompino is large also.
Thanks for your input.
Do you know if your panniers are large or small compared to Ortlieb? I suppose more important is how well they hold up in torrential rain. I'm an all/any weather rider and so far none of my Ortlieb or Chrome gear has let in a drop of water. They are costly though and if I could get away with something cheaper, without double bagging everything then great.

I have an Ultralite (older version) with Ortlieb's.
Size 10s and it's fine.

I've got one of these I think:
http://www.wiggle.co.uk/altura-arran-16-universal-pannier-2013/Quite small, but I think if you get larger ones, most of the extra size is in the pannier being taller and deeper, not wider, so that wouldn't make any difference to heel clearance... I think.
It wasn't sold as super waterproof, but it's definitely at least water-resistant. I would happily ride to work in torrential rain (a 30 minute ride) without worrying about anything inside getting wet. But it can get a tiny bit damp in some places if it's much longer than that. If you needed to cycle in the rain all day with a laptop inside, I'd get something more waterproof, if not, it's probably fine.
They do. Both mini-vs and cantis should be fine even if the bosses are slightly off.
