• I've had this road bike for a fucking age but am determined to get it sorted once and for all. Problem lies with shifting up front:

On the stand everything seems to shift fine. But when I ride it I can't get the chain to jump from small to big ring. So I gradually lower the high limit screw and it eventually shifts up but then the issue becomes the crank arm fouling the derailleur cage. This cant be right.

Not sure what else can be done beyond:

    Changing the derailleur hanger
    Going for different rings
    Getting an alternate front derailleur
    Getting drive side spacers

I've not found anything online about incompatibility.

P.s. I'm using praxis rings- which I know someone here had a bad time with.

  • have you tried giving the derailleur cage a squeeze? It's worked on a few campag ones for me in the past when the cage plates have been a little too bowed out

  • Does the Praxis ring have any ramp/pin to shift up?

  • Sounds obvious but have you tried all alignments of the front derailleur - i.e. if its catching the crank at the back of the FD, turn it clockwise, vice versa if it's hitting the front.
Another thing might be that the centre of the teeth of the big ring are sitting further outboard than other rings - are the Praxis fairly chunky?

  • It has ramping pins and was well aligned. What has brought about some change was moving the derailleur slightly higher up the seat tube (a few mm) higher than Shimano literature suggests. It's not 100% yet but much better- certainly none of the fouling. More testing tomorrow....
